The Mk4 ... I'm sold!

Postby John H » Wed Mar 16, 2016 9:26 pm

I have blown hot and cold about the new MK4. Wasn't too sure about the looks, driven a few and liked them, but was somehow not totally convinced. That all changed this morning!

My Mk3 was in Struans for an oil change so I had arranged to borrow their 1500 SE/L demo car while it was being worked on. I had a wonderful 2 hours on the weel kent roads from Perth to Loch Earn and back, with almost no traffic, and I have to say I am totally sold on the Mk4. What an utter little scalpel of a car! It only proves to me how over-large, over-powered and over-priced most sports cars are today, and are more designed to prop up fragile male egos than they are to provide real world driving thrills. By the time I returned the car I was completely in tune with it; the gearchange, the controls, the steering; the brakes; the engine are all so beautifully balanced that it makes for a superb driving machine. Not the biggest or the fastest with headline numbers, but just a terrific blend of everything just right. Gonna have to start saving!
