Optimum Tyre Size?

Postby 71NotOut » Thu Nov 26, 2015 5:41 pm

What is the optimum tyre size for a 14x7 wheel?

Stick with 185/60/14 with a slight stretch or go to 195/60/14 for that retro large sidewall look?

My car is lowered on Meisters and the wheels are ET28 so will sit a bit further out than the stock daisies.

I am not sure if I will get rubbing issues with a 195/60/14?
Previously in a 2003 Montana, now in a 1991 V-Special...

Been running Falken ZE-s 195/60/14s @ 26PSI (cold) for 4 years on the Mk1.
No issues, even good on track. Fill the arches a bit better, and I think it is more sure footed.
Mine's not lowered...but is a "bit" lower with recent OEM springs. There seemed to be slight variances over the years.
As such, I'd rather not venture about rubbing for sure...but I cannot see an issue really.
There is always an imbecile you never bargained for. Usually in a Tescon carpark with a dented Zafira minus hubcaps

No rubbing reported by others/me;
Should be on http://www.quithel.co.uk wheels
7x15 rims (30mm offset) with 195/50 15 tyres
6x15 rims (40 or 43 mm 195/50 tyres)
16”x7”-38mm with 215 tyres (my old setup)
15”x6.5” et38 with 195 tyres (my current setup)

215mm and ET 38mm is 107.5mm out and 38mm back = 69.5mm from mounting face.
You have 195/2 = 97.5 out and 28mm back so 69.5mm so just the same as my old 215/40-16 et38 setup.

It will work fine

FYI
stock Mk1 rims .. 205/55 will fit on the 5.5" rim and a 225/50 will fit on the 6" rim ... but those are stretched to max for circuit racing in states and probably beyond recommended rim width/tyre width combinations.

Opps.. not paid for 10 years for that site I would think!

Anyway 215 does rub at the front inner plastic liners but 195 is probably narrow enough to miss the lumps in the plastic.
