Welcome to the forum Connor.

You can rebuild the rear calipers with a repair kit if there is no rust in there.

if i was to use mk1 1.8 brake calipers, would i have to make any changes apart from the actual caliper itself?

I'm of the opinion that apart from some big brake Mk2.5 models from 2001 on and not all of them, that the rear calipers for all other Mk1 and Mk2 cars is the same.

Possibly the handbrake bracket may need changed if an early Mk1 caliper is used but I have not changed one on an early car.
