BUDGET BUILD

Postby BATESPEED » Thu May 24, 2012 1:36 pm

hi peeps, i am trying to get my eunos on the road on a budget, i'm nearly there, but after putting discs and pads all round, springs all round, a front wheel bearing (its now needing front shocks so i have to take the front apart again  ) various rear suspension bushes and making an exhaust for it, i have no money left for tyres and to do something with the scabby non original alloys that came with it, but with a bit of research i discovered rover25/45/mgzr alloys fit so have been keeping an eye on the local scrappies.

i fancy a set of these, i like the "retro" look

but yesterday i discovered a 25 being broken, so bought these

they came with two near new and two half worn 195/50 r15 tyres, they are exactly the same circumferance as original 185/60 14s so no gearing or speedo wories, the wheels fit straight on with no rubbing or clearance issues and all for the princely sum of £50......................

i would prefer the ones in the first picture, but they will do for the time being............they are growing on me already :D

anyone else used other manufacturers wheels on their 5? or am i the only tight b****** on here ?

Nah bud, you'll find most people have ran Honda wheels or vw wheels on theirs, however that's the first rover ones I've seen.

Rover wheels look good, i put a set of vx vectra 6x15 with nct eagles 195/60x15 on mine... all tyres with 8mm left... ok for £80.00... like you on a tight budget as i've got 3 more classics to spend on.... do like the old minis... had 8 of them in my teen years but starting to get pricey now for a good one!

its coming on leaps and bounds now, as well as the "shameless lotus elan rip off" paint job, i scored a set of original mx5 alloys with brand new 185/60 r 14 tyres (they are event brand, but you cant have everything) off gumtree for £80.
i think they are in keeping with the retro look i am trying to achieve, and they have improved the ride no end. probably at the the expense of a little bit of roadhlding in the dry, (i havent tried them in the wet yet)
also stuck a lotus badge on the steering wheel , i know its squint, but will need to be trimmed to fit properly.

i still dont like the boot spoiler, if i could get a boot lid with no spoiler in the right colour i would swap
