Hello From Aberdeen

Postby dirtbiker » Wed May 02, 2012 6:58 pm

Hi all,

Relatively new owner here (picked up my 1997 Monza 1.6i in March this year).

Been enjoying the roads around Aberdeenshire and doing a few little bits and bobs to the car - great fun!

Looking forward to meeting other owners on a run at some point!

Hi Chris

Where abouts in Aberdeen are you? There is a monza mx5 parked around the corner from me with a pistonheads sticker on it...

Hi Stewart,

I'm on Willowbank Road pretty much opposite McConechy's - almost certainly my car I would imagine; don't think there are any other Monzas with a PH sticker kicking around Aberdeen!

I seen it parked on holburn street down across from spar and down from farmfoods. When I walk the dog I see around 6/7 if I take the mazda route (where I know they are!)!

Seen those, the mk1 BRG monza and a metallic blue mk2 parked opposite spar, further down on other side a mk3 in silver and a mk2 in yellow round corner in balmoral place....

I stay in Bloomfield Place off the Hardgate.
The blocks of flats that run parallel with Great Southern Road.

Sure a friend has spotted you, if not, ill keep an eye out on dog walking route.
Have you noticed what suspension you have? Most S-specials come with bilsteins but some have been changed from new.
It is an MX5 busy area. 6/7 MK1/2's and a couple of mk3's within 10min walk :D

Stewart

There is indeed lot of Mazda's in the south side.....

I have the factory fitted Bilstein set up. My car was a standard S-Limited and was unmolested when I got her.

Spec is:

Full Red Leather Interior with Red Dashboard and Door Cards
Factory-fitted Original Nardi Black Leather Steering Wheel
Factory-fitted BBS Gold/Silver Alloys
Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Power Windows.
Factory-tuned 1.6 twin cam engine
Limited Slip Differential and Close Ratio Gearbox
Factory-fitted Bilstein Suspension; the rear wheels are splayed outdated
The vehicle also has a Lightened Flywheel, and a Balanced Crankshaft

All of the above are factory fitted modifications.
The car has not been altered in any way since leaving the factory.

The ride is quite stiff and in the town with the crap state of the roads it's not that comfy.
However, on the B roads it holds the road like glue and an awesome drive....

My girlfriends Mk2 Icon is a standard suspension setup and very comfy in town but not very
"Interesting" on the B roads.

I know what I prefer... :-)

Steve

Thanks for the spec list
My eunos is much the same with less spec..comes up as a v limited but I am an s special copier with my BBS golds. I have 130bhp and so I think a few bhp less than some of the S specials? I believe some had a little more.

All down to driver and great fun
What tyres u got?

Tyres are not great, pretty basic but almost new. Not even a brand I've heard of.

I'm refurbing these (Mk2 Sport Alloys) and plan to put on T1 Toyos when I'm finished.
Richardn on the forum has a set he's sold me, just waiting for him to take them off a car.

Still keeping the BBS as want he car quite standard but fancy a different look now and then.

My new house I've bought means no big spends til next year though. Boo!!!

evening all,

Dirtbiker converted to the german stables so I have now got the honour of having fun the the green monza!

Just bashing around having a little fun at the moment until the MOT runs out at the end of august, it may fail (sills) but if it passes then I will start to do some work on it to make it a bit nicer (remove some rust from the front wing, knock out a dent here and there) and change the alloys / tyres.

If it fails on the sills or anything to do with rust then I will probably get a quote to get it sorted and if it is too much then look at the car as a donor for an MEV (90bhp in a light weight car is enough for me!). But for now she is road legal so just enjoying throwing her around. Was going to advance timing to 14deg but checked it tonight and it was already set at 12 so couldnt be bothered to struggle to access the bolt to adjust!
