Hi Gary

Congratulations on finding your project - sounds like a lot of fun.

Now we need to get you along to the MX5OC meetings and runs. Fortunately the first one is tomorrow night in the Craigmonie Hotel Inverness - not too far from the Black Isle!!

If you're interested please go to the events page and leave a note - if you fancy a bar supper we start at 1900hrs if not we start somewhere around 2000hrs - depending on how slowly we eat!!

Hope to see you soon - Brian Joint AC HI-5s (Highland and Moray MX5OC

Hi Gary

I can't believe that - we took a long time figuring out the best day which wouldn't conflict ! First Monday of every month in the Craigmonie - once you have your Mk1 up and running you'll know which one to go to!! lol

If you drop me a direct email with your details I'll add you to our mailing list so you receive updates from us on a regular basis.

Look forward to meeting you - Brian - part of FAB

i managed to get a few hours on the 5 today, i fitted two new front springs, front discs and pads and a new nsr spring (the osr one is new) , still need to do the back brakes and handbrake, and the exhaust mountings have all fallen off :(
hope fully then just a good service and a few wee jobs and roberts your mothers brother.
i did notice , underneath that the main chassis rails are a bit battered looking, i hope this isnt an MOT failure ? is this common on mx5's ?

Yes they tend to be damaged mostly on the Mk1's I've looked at.

If the car has been lowered they will have had a hit or two.

ive done a few wee short runs in the 5 now, and ive come to the conclusion it wouldent pull the skin of a rice pudding ! no torque. .....virtualy nothing happens below 4000 rpm, then it goes a bit better, still doesnt feel anything like a nine seconds to sixty car.......hopefully a good service and tune up will produce a few more horses.. any common faults that could cause this ? i know they are a peaky motor but i hope i can improve it drasticaly (the brakes arent sticking anymore ,so its not that)

Hi Garry,

I'm on the Black Isle too - the nations's pot-hole dumping ground! I'm about to get an MX5 soon - probably a mk3, but I was out and about yesterday and counted five MX5's in and around the Black Isle! Must've been the sunshine or something...

The back shockers have seen better days though, it wallows a bit at the back and crashes into potholes, so that is next on the to do list.

tell you what though, its fecking good fun on these sunny days :D

Are you still on here then Gary?? I have taken the plunge and bought MK 2.5. In silver, I can feel a few summer scuds to Applecross coming on!! In either the mini's or the Mazda's.
