New name needed for North Scotland East

Postby The Pram » Sun Sep 19, 2010 7:08 pm

You may or may not be aware that I made a proposal to the NC that they agree to recognise the three North Scotland areas as distinct and separate from each other. Aside from securing us more money and giving more voice to Scotland at the AGM, it gives us an ideal opportunity to rebrand ourselves.

So, here's the thing.........I'd like folks to have a think about a name for North Scotland East. I'm not quite sure on making this a competition or how on earth to vote on the best name but it would be nice if everyone had a think and contributed their thoughts here. It's your area after all.

I'd like sensible suggestions please. I'm not sure there is much scope right enough and 'd imagine we have to run it past the NC, but lets give it a go please.

I'll start us off with

Grampian - which is very boring and would likely be said "Grumpian"

NSE Aberdeenshire
NSS Perthshire & Angus
NSN Highlands & Islands

Or NSE could be called Aberchirder but we only answer posts when people call it Foggy, that will make sure no inabut commers are welcome!!!!!!!!!!

I would consider Dundee to be in North East Scotland.

So what are you doing in Central?

Perthshire with a Falkirk post code! The regions take their membership from postcodes!

I must say that from about St Fillans south the accents change very much to a central belt accent.

I'm not sure that there is a "Central Belt" accent as such. What I have noticed is that the Glasgow area has a totally different accent from the areas around it. For example Falkirk speech patterns have much in common with Ayrshire and neither sound like Glasgow. No one in Glasgow would ever say "Ye Ken?" or Bairn or speak in an up and down speech pattern like Edinburgh.
The East End of Glasgow has a speech all of it's own using words as slang that are not commonplace outwith it.

What? A Glasgow accent from St Fillans............don't think so unless they have been rehoused under the Witness Protection Programme :D

Well there were plenty as y0u say rehoused Glasgow sounding people around St Fillians on a good number of weekends we have stopped there for lunch. Callander also get plenty Glasgow visiters

I assume you must work in social work Ronnie and arrange this rehousing under the witness protection programme.

Well a wee bit of thread creep here I must say, so far I'm not exactly gripped by any of the suggestions, other non geographical names in the club are things like 'phoenix fives', is there something along these lines that we can adopt?

Teuchter Fives
Fishy Fives
Oily Fishy Farmers

You get the idea.....

Ah, you show em Ian. I was thinking

Eastern Picts?

I don't know but the local area names are boring as fart right enough. We need something I think that represents the North East corner.

Doric Drivers?
