NSE - Cullen for Chips - 11th April - 3rd Time Lucky

Postby IanH » Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:04 pm

Well! Assuming the weather has started to behave a bit this could be the first run out of this year, meet at Morrisons in Inverurie at 10:30 and have a gentle meander up to Cullen for a sit down Fish & Chip lunch. So come on break out your scarves and woolly hats and join us for the least worst fast food. (Fish & Chips 847 calories....)

Names below or on the events page or if you're shy :D by email to Lorraine or myself.

Im nae convinced on the weather front. We are thinking about wimping out. My weather widget thingy app on my phone does indeed say sunny tomorrow -3 at 9am, the 1C at noon and 2C at 3pm. Im more worried about ice on the road. Met office app says visibility good too but between -1 and 4C. Basically I am being a wimp and not keen to whirl on the back roads of the north east. Am I being a wimp or just sensible?

Morning all..........4in of snow in the Blootoon and it's minus 3 at the moment......the roads are horrendous. By the looks of the forecast it's set to freeze tonight so the chances of this lot shifting aint good. At the moment I'm debateable as to taking the car out.

OK, sensible head on time (I know I know it doesn't happen often....). Just driven from Mintlaw to Inverurie (in the VW), main roads OK, smaller roads less so in varying degrees. To make this trip worthwhile we should use the wee roads so I vote we go for a 7 day postponement and view the situation again next week. :?

Re: NSE - Cullen for Chips - 28th Feb (rescheduled)

Postby liathach » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:05 pm

Just catching up.......I drove the back roads to Ellon yesterday from Dyce/Belhelvie and the roads were atrocious! I was in the 4*4 and the ABS was chattering every time I slowed down and I wasn' t driving quickly! There was very little snow but it was slippery. I passed a Megane (I think) beautifully parked in a passing place but it was upside down, resting on the front edge of the bonnet and the front edge of the roof.

I think postponement is sensible, and if I've shaken off this cold, I may manage next Sunday.....bonus :D

We have just walked into Auchenblae and it is picture postcard stuff.

I could not get the MX5 back up out track if I was daft enough due to the ice and snow, so seems like the best idea to reschedule.

I know! But the BBC forecast (for what it's worth) has Friday down for heavy rain and sunny intervals for Saturday and Sunday. We don't need to make a decision yet.

Rain would be good if it shifts a lot of the crap, we'll take a position on Saturday and possibly go with a modified route :)

Thoughts for Sunday? Roads here have quite a lot of snow at the sides with a lot of meltwater (localised flooding) in places, my neighbour was up around Turriff today and reports conditions as 'bad'.

The precipitation forecast looks reasonable for the next couple of days however it's what's going to happen with overnight low temps and then gradual melting that concerns me.

What say you?

Re: NSE - Cullen for Chips - To be rescheduled.

I've had further road reports from up in the Banff, Macduff, Cullen area and it's supposedly nae great :? so we'll postpone this and reschedule for a future date. If anyone wants to spend their petrol money on beer instead I'll be in Archies tomorrow watching the Rugby
