Impromptu run - Wednesday 6th May

Postby IanN » Sat May 02, 2009 8:12 am

Several club members have requested an evening impromptu run, so lets try it out.

How about meeting up at Stirling Services at 7pm on Wednesday 6th May and driving up to Comrie, Lochearnhead, St Fillans, Callander and back to Stirling. This would be around 70 miles and take a couple of hours.

If you're interested simply reply to this posting or just turn up at Stirling on the night.

If the weather looks unsuitable then we can also post a cancellation notice on Wednesday so please keep looking at this topic for the most up to date information.

Please Note: This event although posted on the MX-5 Scotland website is not classed as an official event, simply a few friends getting together.

As much as I would love to be able to vent my spleen about the main forum, it's not looking like I'll be able to make this afraid.

Hi Everyone

The weather looks pretty grim for Wednesday night. :( :(

Think we should cancel and possibly try again next Wedneday the 13th.

What do you think.

Might be a good idea to re-schedule for next week - the Beeb are forecasting heavy rain for tomorrow, as opposed to tonight's *light* rain..

I'll look back later to see what the consensus is.

I think that might be the best plan.

We can see how it looks in the morning/lunch time, keeping in mind that Sunday and Monday were both forecast to be horrid but picked up late afternoon/evening, but I can't see it...

9 am in Falkirk and the sun is shining, looks like it could still be on. Unless it changes dramatically I'll be at Stirling at 7 pm. As for the run we can head in any direction depending on the weather conditions at the time.

Looking good so far.

Now started raining in Callander - but "Metcheck" is showing a fairly clear window between 7 and 9 tonight. (Usually quite accurate on the short term forecast) It would be helpful to know which direction you intend going as it would save me a trip to Stirling if you're coming to Callander first.

It still looks fairly nice, but looking at the online forecasts I can't find one that says it will stay dry - but then they also say it is heavy rain just now, which it certainly isn't.

A bit of drizzle doesn't bother me, but if it is anything like last night...

12:30 Heavy cloud cover and raining in Falkirk.

Could still be good tonight, will be at Stirling Services at 7 and make a decision to go or not and also which direction.

May see some of you hardy bunch there.

It's brightening up in north Glasgow but unsure which way it's heading... The rain is certainly nothing like it was last night.

Will keep optimistic for tonight as I can't do next week :)

It might not be roof down weather, but it doesn't look like it will be too bad, so I will also be there.

The sun does break through every so often, so it could well dry up...

Well we did it, the first impromptu run of the year. Three cars, Carol, Ramsay and myself had a splashing drive all the way from Stirling to Lochearnhead. MX-5 drivers are a tough lot at least that's what I thought, where were you all, it was only a little bit of rain. While we were at Lochearnhead the sky cleared, and we had a good drive with the tops down all the way home.

Good to meet Carol and Ramsay for the first time hope to see you both again soon at another impromptu run or larger club event.

Ian

A thoroughly enjoyable, if slightly damp!, evening out - many thanks to Ian for taking the lead with arrangements and it was great to meet both Ian and Ramsay :D

I think mid-week short runs are a brilliant idea - just enough to take your mind off all the grief you've had at work during the day and home not too late. When's the next one?!

I really ought to get my OC logo and piccie sorted now...

It was a really good night; hopefully we can do the same again soon, but with some bright sunshine!
