Lost Radio Code

Postby clydesider » Fri Apr 03, 2009 4:48 pm

Hi all
My favourite wife has decided to take her MX5 2.5 out of winter hibernation.
First issue was a re-charge of flat battery, followed by the "code" message on the radio.
Next problem is she cant find her code card or owners handbook!
Taggarts wants £33 to recode.
Can someone tell me what actions to take/buttons to press and I will try last 4 numbers of the VIN number? Thanks
Mike

Thanks for reply.
According to Taggarts, dealers do not set codes on initial supply, hence their offer to sort us out for £33.
However, I will ring Wrights Mazda Norwich and see if they have anything for 2004.
Would still like to know the press button sequence for radio code input from the owners handbook to try the VIN last four.

According to the handbook for my 2004 Mk 2.5 …

Begin with the radio off and the ignition key in the accessory position.

Press the auto memory button (AUTO-M) and preset button number 6 (6>>) simultaneously for about 2 seconds – CODE should appear in the display

While CODE is displayed, press the auto memory button (AUTO-M) and preset button number 6 (6>>) simultaneously and the display will change to bars (-- -- -- --)

While the bars are displayed, enter the 4 digit code. (You do this by using preset button 1 for the first digit (press as many times as necessary to reach the required number), present button 2 for the second digit, preset button 3 for the third digit, preset button 4 for the fourth digit etc)

Once you’ve entered all four digits, press the auto memory button (AUTO-M) and preset button number 6 (6>>) simultaneously and CODE should flash for about 5 seconds and then disappear – system is set. If you get ERR, you have a problem and you only get three goes.

Good Luck

Got an email reply from Wrights Mazda in Norwich saying they usually set last 4 numbers of VIN for the radio code.
Using this and the info in Dannys post above we now have music on the move again :D
My favourite wife thinks you are a hero Danny
