Elvington and Kames Sat 2nd/Sun 3rd August

Elvington and Kames Sat 2nd/Sun 3rd August

I'm embarking on yet another crazy weekend of motorsport and flying the MX-5 Scotland flag!

On Saturday, I'm at Elvington Airfield near York for round 8 of the TJ Services Nothern Speed Championship. I'm currently leading my class in this championship and I have a good chance of the maximum 25 points if I get a decent time. Looks like my main competition comes from a Clio Williams, an MGF VVC and a Fiesta ST. Elvington is a power circuit and the Clio and MG will have the edge.

Ever committed to fitting in as many events as possible, I'm coming back up Saturday night so that I can go to Kames on Sunday for a sprint which counts in the Scottish Sprint Championship and the Lowland Speed Championship. I'm currently 4th in class in the Scottish Championship with no real chance of improving on that position. The Lowland Championship is better - I'm currently leading the class but that will definitely change after Kames on Sunday

Anyway, whilst I might not be having have much success in the Scottish championships this year, I have got my 100sec target time to beat on Sunday and it will be good practice for the season finale on 5 October.

As usual, I'll post a full report on here and on my blog next week.

Cheers,

Kev

Good luck Kevin.

We would come to Kames, but we'll be on the Perthshire Glens run. We should make the 5th October event, though

Well, after a 5 hour drive I'm at my b and b ready for tomorrow. My backside is numb from the very uncomfortable elise seat i have fitted.

Weather looks promising.

It was a long, hard, wet and at times uncomfortable weekend with mixed results.

Saturday at Elvington had it's very wet moments but in the end I managed to beat my last year's best time by over 2 seconds and come second in class, pipped by a 2.0 litre Clio Sport 172. Picked up 25 championship points along with a nice wee trophy and was chuffed to bits on the 5-hour return home. All in all, a good day. Full report and some pics (including in car at the start line!) on my website

Sunday was a different story. Ever since my 'incident' at Forrestburn, I've struggled to get good times at Kames and yesterday was no different. I had been blaming the changes I've made to the car but I've now decided it must be me. I could only manage 102 seconds - about 2 seconds slower than I went in both April this year and October last year in similar conditions. This was only good enough to get 5th out of 6 in class. However I did beat the spectacularly driven TVR Griffith 500 (see SkinnyDoug's excellent photos).

So, my next outing is at Forrestburn on 24 August and I have some psychological hurdles to overcome. It's a real pressure meeting for me because I need a good result to keep my Northern Speed Championship hopes alive. This is getting all too serious........
