This was only my first track day (although I had a 1 hour instructor session at Knockhill in the dry before) so I'm still learning it and simply didn't feel confident enought to totally commit it. (no track insurance focussed the mind a bit)

Its a big, big change from the MX-5 (mine was a bog standard 1.6) and I'm still going through the "ill try that a bit faster next time" period.............I've traditionally always been wary in the wet

In the right hands the car is just amazing, you simply don't think its going to turn in and stick and it does......and even in my ham-fisted hands it feels superb. The performance, noise and overall drama just make it even better!

I was getting quicker towards the end of the session after going out with Jamie in the Exige and seeing what was possible. I think part of the problem with me at the moment is learning to listen to what the car is saying and letting it move around a wee bit, and not just cr*p my pants when it moved 5cm off line! It was the the corners before and after the chicane I was having most problems with, but I'm pretty sure it was all in my head!

Great day though....next time i wil be better! :?

p.s What spec was the Escort ?

if you get a good line through duffus dip you would be surprised how much speed you can actually carry through those corners :D

the escort has got a 1.8 115bhp engine, ive lowered it by about 30mm but apart from that its pretty standard. its tempting to spend a lot of money on it but im hoping to have a mazda rx7 by around November so all my money will be getting saved for that.

maybe the next time if its dry up at knockhill you will get a better chance to experiment with the vx220, i think it shouldn?t be far off the pace of the exige

I think my line through duffis was ok, I think it was just a complete lack of bravery and / or skill when it came to McIntrye and to a lesser extent Butchers.

.....althoguh i did get passeger laps in the Exige and it makes my car seem like a wallowing old barge.....and its got those trick Yokos / superbike tyres!

My comments copied from the National OC Forum for those who don't go there:

I'd like to add my thanks to all involved in the event. I was nervous about taking my car on the track but enjoyed every moment! It was not scarey at all mainly thanks to the impeccable track etiquette observed by everyone.

Please extend my thanks on to the Lotus (& VX) owners too - although they were mainly racing each other (a fair bit quicker than most of the '5s) they still observed the correct overtaking rules.

I enjoyed passing the VX220 (I'm guessing he wasn't pushing it too hard) and sticking like glue to the tail of the yellow Elise! Also great to see the old Lotus Elan on the track - just shows how good these cars were in their time that they are still competitive now, even though it did start to have problems with traction once the track got wet.

So once again, thanks to everyone for organising the event and making me feel so welcome. I look forward to doing it all again next year

Just want to add my thanks to the organisers of this!

I was too scared to take my '5 on track, but thanks to those who gave me some passenger laps - much fun!!!!

I also discovered that a full face helmet is a brilliant ear warmer!

It was great to finally put some faces to the names on here, and to see some great driving and nice cars. Still trying to persuade Morna on the merits of a supercharger

Hopefully I'll feel braver for the next one, and test my driving skills....

Have just bought new PC and I am trying to post some video footage of the cars on the track. Just waiting to be connected to broadband, this old machine is too slow to down load. If I need help to do this who can I contact?

Paul/Si,
If you have any footage of my car (black Mk2 R*** KSX) I'd appreciate a copy. In return, I'd happily host some footage on my web space with links back here (I have plenty space/bandwidth which I don't use).

If anyone has video footage of the evening and would like it posted on the internet, you can either email it, or send it on a CD in the post. I'll then compress (if required) and upload it to the net.

PM me for my email or home address.

Hi everyone up there!

I'm a little late in asking but do any of you have any pictures and\or video of my car on the track?

I've looked at the photos & video from the posting a couple up from Si and I feature quite well in 3 of the videos (mostly being held up by that yellow Elise  ).

Does anyone have any more pictures and\or video of me on the track?

Si - are you going to organise another Knockhill trackday at the same time next year? If so I'll be there :D

Thanks

I can't take any credit for organising the last Knockhill event .... that was ALL down to Douglas!! If there is one next year I'll be there ... providing my MX-5 is still in one piece :?

I'm afraid I don't have any more pics/vids of you and your car.

Lazza...I'll speak to Kev about next year, I did mention to Kev about possibly the same time, but I think he said your plans for next year perhaps would be different.
