Hello

Postby Paddler » Thu Jan 24, 2008 2:27 am

Hi guys!

My name's Dave, I'm a newbie living in Aberdeen as a student but from Dunfermline originally.

Don't own an MX5 atm, I drive a Mk1 MR2 which I love but the draw of the 5 which I've always wanted is making me restless lol. Gonna be looking for a Mk1 1.8 soon I think 8)

I also have a classic mini in bits in my garage in Dunfermline and run the website ScottishMini.co.uk.

Just thought I'd say hi :)

Hi Dave, You wont look back. I've got a 1.8 MK1 and it's just newly imported. Immaculate. Hope you get one soon.

Did you get it imported? If so who imported it for you? I seriously doubt that would be an option on my budget but could look into it anyway. Need to make some moves to sell the MR2, or find someone who wants to swap tho that's a long shot.

I love the mk1 MR2. It's one of those cars I browse the classifieds for as a potential project car. Then I see the parts cost and come crashing back down to earth

Good luck with your hunt but you might need to be willing to travel to find a good one within budget. I'm sure you know most of the normal places to look (autotrader, pistonheads) but also look at the for sale section of the main owners club forum www.mx5ocforum.co.uk and also in www.mx5nutz.com as at least you'll know these cars have been owned by people who care about them.... mostly

Hi Dave, welcome to the club.

I love the Mk1 MR2. I did buy one once and the guy blew up the engine the day I was due to pick it up. :(

I love to too, it was a close call between it and the 5 when I bought it.

You'd think so my first MR2 (rev3 tubby) was bought from an 'enthusiast' and didn't last long at all before the turbo blew up.

I'm not afraid of travelling to find a car I've bought in the past from Lincoln, Rotherham, Aberdeen (while living in Dunfermline), Caithness (while living in Dunfermline) and Japan, tho I got that one delivered as far as London before I picked it up lol.

If you see any internet links to cars for sale then you could do a lot worse than posting it on here. The years of experience here are huge and someone will see any problems straight away. If it's fairly minor then it's always a great way to get the seller to drop the price

Hi Dave,
The MX-5 is surprisingly similar to drive as the Mk1 MR2. On the upsides, the MX-5 is less prone to head gasket failure and marginally less prone to serious rust. But I just love the 80s feel of the MR2 interior.

Here is a pic of mine at Rockingham a few years back:

Yup totally standard apart from a CD changer in the glovebox and some tiny improvements to the electrics (auto window up, pop-ups remain down on sidelights)

8) That's a beauty !

The draw of the wind-in-the hair must be strong to part with that. A no rust mk1 is a rare thing indeed, especially an original one, you'll be beating them off with a stick when you put the for sale sign on that :D

Nice colour as well

depending on the milage on your mk1 i'd be putting the price a bit higher than the typical mk1 price.

Your car is one of the reasons i wish i wasn't still a student. If i could afford to run a second car... you'd have an offer by now

I paid more than average for it so will be wanting more than average back, otherwise I'll just keep it. The mileage is 83000, it's a got a very dense history with it too.

I'm a student and have 2 cars (tho one's in bits in the garage), go on treat yourself lol

jeezo, thats a cracker!!!

I had toyed with getting one of those a while ago; but was swayed more by the mazda.

If its any consolation, you'll be going from a cracking car... to another cracking car!

(keep the MR-2 get it in storage and run a mazda!!!)

:D :D :D
