I know what you mean, I've passed three Roadsters in Ayr this weekend, no response from any of them, one green H plate, one green K plate and a red G plate, oh yes and one forum member twice this week, wait till I see him. Very distinctive MK2

Gives Roadster owners a bad name

Rather defeatist what? ...'tis so much better to give than to receive.....

Or put another way, it's a bit like doing the Lottery, millions do it in the sure knowledge that they have almost no chance of winning but, when they do, it's gr8!

It's much the same with waving .....?:O)

dear JP I waved to you when i left the car park, at the last pub meeting. When i drive i wave to anybody who has the top down ( Even MGF owners) Regards Andy
If it goes round and round or up and down then maybe i can fix it. Andy

Ok i know that it does seem a bit defeatist but after nearly 2 years of ownership the only wave i have ever had out on the road was a female in bieth (lorna was in the car at the time and boy did i have some explaining to do after she commented "who was that, how do you know her")

I've only had mine since May and I've had about 3 waves, I'm a bit self conscious about waving first but I always wave back if someone else waves first ;) One time my wee brother was in the car, he asked "Do you know him?" and I had to explain ;)

It is very disheartening when they don't wave back, but please don't give up, it's feels GREAT when they do acknowledge you.

I agree it does feel great when they wave back, it make's you feel as though you are part of a wee special group but also gets a bit disheartening when they don't.

Cheers to the blue 5 driver who waved this morning in Sighthill - not sure our company lawyer who was my passenger quite undestood my waving back to a total stranger - still he hasn't got a 5 so no need to explain

I wonder if that was the same lady who waved at me on the royal mile today in her blue mk1 ? If so, thankyou for my first wave :) Lucky ms. GM wasn't in the car !

can i please ask - is waving restricted to scotland or should this be done all over the UK. I live in England and have had an MX-5 for nearly 2 years and have never been waved at, or even heard of waving to other MX-5's. Definately think it is a brilliant idea, just dont wanna be a wally waving to other drivers if its just a Scotland thing lol....

It's a world wide thing, but some do and some don't. I wore someone down over 6 weeks and now get a wave every time ;-). Mostly, you'll be ignored, but that's their problem, not yours. Go for it.
