Knockhill Track Night 2007

.... for those that enjoy 'tracking' their car.

Postby Si » Sun May 27, 2007 12:13 am

Nice vid Kev ...... can see what you mean about taking it easy ;)

I'm very wary of Knockers in the wet, but after one of our sessions where the weather wasn't that great my confidence grew .... even skidding over the edging on the corners became quite fun (if a little unpredictable!).

One thing I'll say now, if ANYONE wants a passenger lap (or ten) they need only ask. I'm terrible on the night for asking people if they want to come round, but if I get volunteers then I'm only too happy to oblige.

6 days to go!!!!!!!

Si,

I would love to tag along for a passenger ride if I can borrow a helmet from somewhere also. I've not been to any club events yet and have to admit that as i'm new to all this I bottled the chance to take my 5 on the track.

Looking forward to meeting more of the club members on Friday.

Assuming I get Kermit back on the road in time, I'll have a spare seat on Friday night if anyone wants to go round a lap a bit slower than Si :)

I'll happily take folk round for a few laps - just ask me on the night. I'd quite like a lap with Si, too.

Hopefully, I'll have my cameras with me so I'll try and get some decent video.

What should I bring next Friday?

I imagine I'll need:

Driving License
Mot & Tax disc
Full tank of Fuel
Cash for helmet hire

Anything else?

Hmm ... do we actually need to provide a MOT certificate? I've never even needed to show a driving license before! Douglas, do you know what we REALLY need to bring to get on track (in terms of documentation)?

Kev - I'll take you for a lap if I can get a run round with you.

Gordon - I doubt I'll be that quick. Still taking it easy in the old girl and don't want to destroy the past work Graham and I have done over the past couple of months :)

Markyboy - I can't recall what you look like so you'll have to come looking for me. I'll be the balding bloke with big teeth with a striped silver 5. If anyone else is in it, they've nicked it so call the police ;)

Michael - No problem about your mates. I'll definately have the camera ... and if you're prepared to do some trackside videoing that'd be ace!!!!!

Gavin - I said "ballast", not a handicap ;) Seriously - no problem!!! Seem to recall you flying round in your Mk3 last year so some tips would be appreciated.

See you all Friday :) :D

Ahh you see that will be because I've not really met anyone.
I've met MichaelG and RichardN (when I had the new hood fitted) but that's it.
I'll need to get my 'Hi there, I'm Mark and I've not met you before but your car looks great' hat on for Friday night.

Maybe I'll print out everyones avatars so I have a general idea who people might be :D

Si...Yes, don't know if they will carry out the checks but best bring documentation in case.

I'm thinking about putting the Hardtop on for the night, stiffens up the car and... well you know the other reason.

Is there enough clearance inside the hardtop to allow for a driver with a helmet?

Not for me anyways, I'll have to take my hardtop off and put the roof down :D I'll bring my MOT certificate just on the off chance that its required.

What time should we be there to sign on and have the safety briefing etc?

Cheers

Briefing normally at 5.30pm. I'd aim to be there for 5pm at the latest - that way you have time to get your car in shape (emptied!)

Si - I'll happily take you round in return for some tips! :D

In case anyone doesn't know me and wants a run round - my car is the black one with the big white stickers on the side and I'll be the fat bloke in the 'Stig' outfit

As the 'Stick' (NO WAY IS HE FAT) not the 'stig' say's, be there as early as you can, same as previous years hope to get one of the Knockhill staff drivers to take out the novices for the first few laps, just so they can follow them and get some feel of the lines to take before the others join in.

Lots of drivers will be up for passenger rides so don't worry too much about booking a place on here, there will be loads of time on Friday night, just ask, the atmosphere if like previous years, hopefully will be on the fun side, with safety being of paramount importance.
Again I would ask participants to refrain from talking about timed runs, this is not a race event its about enjoying your car in a track environment, some members do have track night insurance and if you keep harping on about timed runs you are putting that insurance in jeopardy.

Last year at the briefing, Knockhill said anyone timing will be thrown off as it invalidates their (Knockhill) insurance
