Kames Sprint Sun 15 April

.... for those that enjoy 'tracking' their car.

Kames Sprint Sun 15 April

Postby kevham » Wed Apr 11, 2007 6:56 pm

Just had my entry confirmed for the Iain Pinkerton Memorial Sprint at Kames, near Muirkirk this Sunday.

I'll be competing as car number 22 although I'll be easy to spot as the only MX5 in a class full of Westfields. Expect me to be very, very last (as opposed to slightly last).

Still, I'm sure it will be great fun and good practice for my championship event at Kames later in the year.

Practice starts at 9.30am with the timed runs after lunch at around 1pm. There's about 50 cars entered - lots of Westfields, Scoobys and Evos as well as around 15 single seaters.

Full report will follow.

Dave Scott and Graeme & Christine organised a few events at Kames right up until 2001 /2002, after which it became uneconomical due to the increase in cost for the track, partly due to the near fatal accident by one of the Pro Go Cart Drivers.
Graeme and Simon cut their track teeth on this track.

Kames is a fantastic sprint track and quite technical. I've been there for at least 5 track sessions and seen 3 accidents ... mainly due to drivers pushing too hard, coming off the track and then trying too hard to get back on to the track. With Kames, if you come off the track, abort the run and don't try to wrestle with the car to get it back on to the black stuff.

My clutch isn't going to be here until Monday so I'd quite like to come down and watch. Maybe see you there!!

I'm treating Sunday as my testing session before my main championship events later in the year.

One of the things I've learned about sprinting is that experience of the circuit is crucial and since I've never even been to Kames (nevermind actually drive it) I thought I'd better get some practice in.

I note from Dave Scott's old site that MX-5 times were around 104 - 117 secs. At least I've got something to aim for...........

Well done to Kevin, improved his times on every run. Not everyone who competed today could say that. Not too shabby at all :D :D

Glad I made the journey along to watch

Definately worth the trip down, although I really wished I was taking part too! Kev really did himself proud today and posted some pretty respectable times considering he'd never been on the track until today.

See you at the next one :)

Was a really great effort, especially when you consider that he managed to beat a couple of cars that have been prepared as out and out racers :!:

Anyway, a couple of the other highlights of the afternoon

Three wheels on my wagon :?:
