Dumpling Run - Suggestion for NE members?

Postby findlay » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:55 pm

Just a quick suggestion following on from rocdoc's Slug run suggestion...

Leave Aberdeen head for Alford, take the back road through Tough to the Strathdon road, left and over the Lecht to Tomintoul, through Tomintoul and Brig o' Brown towards Grantown, take the Newtonmore turn off and head through to Newtonmore, hang a right and cross the valley floor to the Aviemore road, left on the Aviemore road and Right into the Speyside heather centre "Home Of the Clootie Dumpling

Choice of routes home - Dava moor and A96 for the tired, Back over the Lecht, Glen Gairn and South Deeside road for the brave.

Opinions? :?

Sounds magic to me but doubt I have the time to go on it.

Was up the Lecht road at Easter which is lovely and the clootie dumplin place is fab too.

If it wasn't for the fact that my mum's caravan at Dalraddy (just outside Aviemore) doesn't have space for umpteen cars to park, a BBQ there would be nice. There is a wee back road from Kingussie that is nice too, very twisty and pretty much sinlge track 8) from what I remember. Even better is the coffee shop/garden centre a few miles in this road with the best home made cakes/pies (fancy pieces) to die for  (why isn't there an emoticon for slurp slurp dribble).

Sounds like a great run and maybe tempting for those members further up North from here.

five star effort

Think this will have to be

POST
"Weather looks good this weekend how about 'Findlays Run'"
and see what the response is.

Often these adhoc runs turn out to be memorable.
Even during the winter months we sometimes have a nice weekend.

Would it be a meet in Alford at a certain time. Might be able to make it if its Sunday, Sat is out (thats this week end coming) other weekends would depend that week.

I was up with my lady in the Waterwheel Inn outside Aberdeen and made the trip West to Alford on 13th Oct via some great small roads. Don't know the names as Elaine's a local lass from Keith so was navigating me.

We then headed back to the North Deeside Road via some twisty bits, stopping at the coffee shop I think Lorraine's referring to earlier. Nice place but what a bizarre combo: animal feed/gift shop/cafe shop.

We were lucky with the weather so the top was down, the car's not Elaine's unfortunately!
Cheers
