Postby PaulDS » Thu Jul 01, 2004 8:35 pm

Hi Guys,
Just back from spending 2 days west coast highlands, absolutely great and the weather forcast was wrong again, hood up for 2 spells of 20mins and 10 mins over the 2 days, topless for the rest of the time. Really in the mood now!!!
Anyway anyone interested in meeting this Saturday (03/07/04), I can be in Aberdeen for 1pm but not sure of any good locations for coffee, chat and looking at cars, any suggestions? If anyone wants to go for quick spin we can arrange there and then eh!!!!
'Highland' if you want to come and can't get your 5 out of garage I can pick you up if something is arranged.
Please let me know asap.

Guys, eureeka, I made it onto the forum!!

Yes, this saturday.

I'm working at 2 in Dyce but would love to meet up somewhere in the morning if thats suitable to you all.

There are a couple of options, Burger King at Altens, or, probably nicer, the Duthie Park car parkby the river Dee. There is a coffee shop in the park too though you couldn't see the cars from there!!

Free all day on Sunday if thats any better.

Mike.

Anyone else is welcome.
Guess what I saw while driving in the highlands, 2 BMW Z3's with the tops down, that must be a first!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to meeting up.
Mac, Do you need to wear a red hat to recognise you. Ha Ha!!!

Had a blast :-)

Postby loftladderman » Sat Jul 03, 2004 3:37 pm

4 cars met up at a beautiful park in Aberdeen called "Duthie Park".

Lovely weather so all were topless.
SEE PHOTOS BELOW

There was Paul D-S, in his red Supercharged Roadster, Mike in his standard Red Roadster, Paul (from Aberdeen) and his good lady in there NEW 1,8 Sports MX5, and myself and Dax of course, in the Turbo.

After a good chat about the cars etc, we set off for a run led by Mike.
10 minutes into the run and it rained !
I mean "IT RAINED".
Not your normal rain and not even the typical Scottish rain !
This was rain with a vengeance !

Cats and Dogs, Stair rods, buckets, heavens opened up, call it what you will -- It PIMPLY SISSED DOWN BIG TIME.

Roads flooded, huge bow waves, spray like out the end of a hose pipe, and all the rest that goes to make a rainy run...erm...fun !

We did not stop to put the hoods up as it was raining far to heavily and we may have got wet ! ha haaaaaaaaaa
Even Dax was giving me dirty looks as we drove along !

When we stopped for coffee at Tescos in Dyce, comment was passed that the wipers would not clear the rain from the screen because it was on the INSIDE...LOL

I think a fun day was had by all, and we did draw some attention when we were parked up in Duthie Park.
One couple we spoke with, said they had a "Nevada" each at home !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to you lads and one lassie for making my first Scottish meet a whole load of fun...all be it wet fun !

Thanks to the guys today - great time was had.

A special thanks for the advice that we could keep the hood down in the rain and that we wouldn't get WET! :?

It provided great entertainment for other drivers who passed 4 mx5's with their roofs down and the occupants all drenched!

Looking forward to the next run and our application form will be in the post this week! :D

Cheers,

Postby loftladderman » Sun Jul 04, 2004 6:54 am

Hi Paul
I told you the OTHERS were nutters !
Course you get wet when it rains THAT heavily !

They were lunatics to give you such advice.
Of course I would never dream of telling you such a tale !
Ha haaaaaaaaaaa

Glad you two enjoyed it all the same and we shall do it again I am sure as none of us live so far away from each other.

Glad to here you are joing the "Nutters Club"....erm...OWners Club I meant of course

Tell your lass that we hope to see HER at the wheel one of these times too !

Great to see all enjoyed the experience, blame Mike9 he was lead if you got wet. By the way I DIDN'T get wet must have been the Moss wind breaker.
Anyway this will be one of those tales we can tell over and over again.
'Remever the time we went topless in Aberdeen and went through a cloud burst!!!!!!!!' This tale will last for years.
Paul, you will never forget your first run will you!
Doesn't it show what a great car we own, how many other soft tops can or would do what we did.
My family are now convinced MX5 owners are nutters like me.

Hey, don't blame me, the car in front was going FAR too slow !!!

Anyway, it was a right giggle, and not as bad as it looked like it might be.

Mac, my dog managed to get his stitches out so we have to go back to the vet again this morning, should still be able to get to yours after lunch tho, i'll give you a ring before I head down to make sure all is well.

meet up

Postby BillB » Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:59 pm

Lind and I were in Aberdeen all weekend, we saw the 5's as they were leaving Duthies park. Wish we had known you guys were meeting there. The Xedos would have looked good alongside the 5's, especially with it's new wheels.

Unfortunately, the ARI (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary) took up most of our time.

Hope to see you all on a future run but not in the forseeable future.

Regards,

Bill & Linda
