Doune Hill Climb

Postby sgibson » Sun Jun 04, 2006 11:19 pm

I got a leaftlet about the Doune Hill Climb which is one the 17th and 18th of June (practice Saturday and racing Friday). I think it said that it was ?11 entry and it looks like it will be a good day with a wide range of cars competing.

The website can be found here http://www.dounehillclimb.com/, but bear in mind that the site isnt very welcoming!

Looks good! If the car's fixed I'd be keen to attend.

Do you think you'll be going/competing?

I should be going along to watch with some friends from the 205GTIDrivers forum.

There are flyers kicking around (AA Components) that give a little discount on entry.

I don't know if anyone (other than an old git like me) remembers the Scottish hill-climb circuit of many years ago, when names like Mike Hailwood and others raced up the 'Craw-yet' at Kinneil in Bo'ness. I loved to watch all of the (sadly past) stars of motor sport competing on this long lost hill-climb track.
So, if you have the chance, attend this hill-climb event, it is really worth supporting. It is a form of motor sport open to all, providing your car passes scrutiny, and is something worth taking part in, even if just as a steward or in a support capacity. The various car clubs would most certainly welcome any assistance.

No but I remember Jim Thomson who also sponsored it for Guyson (and his daughter!, but we'll leave that  )

Not that old either but I was at the event pictured on the site in 1977 and most of them after that.

...Dear Dear. The sound of creaking Zimmer frames is rife on this posting about hill climbs.....and I'm no different. At one time in my past i seem to recall brandishing a flag and fire extinguisher (see we can multi-task!!) at contestents on a hill climb venue just outside St Andrews. It was a caravan park which i think was called Kinkell Braes.

I also used to marshal at Ingliston in the hey days of the old supersaloons which saw such madness as turbo skodas   and V8 everything!!

Memories.

I went to the race on the Sunday (£7 entry) and had a good day - lots of serious machines racing up the hill.

I saw a red and a Gleneagles/Dakar in the car park..anyone from here?
