Having been with the club less than a year I'n not sure of this, have any of the National events been held further North than the ones this year?

IanH...Here is a breakdown of National Events since I have been a member:-

SPRING RALLY
2001..Duxford Cambridge.
2002..Beaulieu Southampton.
2003..Harrogate Yorkshire.
2004..Duxford Cambridge.
2005..Margam Wales.

NATIONAL RALLY
2001..Tatton Park Cheshire.
2002..Gaydon Warwick.
2003..Edinburgh Scotland.
2004..Weston Park Shropshire.
2005..Goodwood Chichester.

Interesting developments this year when Goodwood figures were around the 400 cars, somewhat under the expected 1000 figure. When we organised the 2003 Rally in Edinburgh, which was 1 week of daily and nightly events, culminating in the Rally on the Saturday, (to allow people to travel home on Sunday) we too had around the 400 cars. It would appear that living in middle England you can't go wrong, having been used to Rallies on their doorstep for many years, most from that area vote with their feet and just don't go; when the venue is up North or deep South of the country.
Its ok complaining that the venue doesn't come close to your patch but remember someone has to organise it, the National Committee mostly work in conjunction with whatever Area is Hosting it, its a lot of hard work, as a few on this forum will vouch for. Next years venue in Lincolnshire should be a safe bet, with the bonus of attracting some of the
European Clubs.

I suspect it won't be long before the whole idea of even having a national meet is raised again.

With few traders and constant complaints of there being nothing to do, (usually erroneous) who would take one on? There was someone on the email list saying it wan't a patch on the Mini and MG ones he used to go to because there was no autojumble (the cars don't go wrong therefore very few scraps), not as many people (MG is a brand not a model - of course there will be more people) and no traders (MX5 kit is specific to MX5's unlike BMC stuff which spreads across various models so not as much scope for traders). All good reasons why the 5 rally wouldn't compare to the bigger ones, but of all the comments on the email list I saw 2 that were complementary.

When we were giving feedback to the national committee about the run uo to Edinburgh, Allan Legg was there outlining plans for Goodwood a full 2 years in advance (as we had 2 years previous). No one is going to do that if there is nothing but carping afterwards and that's why I think national meets, especially the national rally, are in mortal peril.

At the Co-ords meeting on Sunday, Dave & Jenny Ward (Oxford) who are hosting the Spring Rally, gave an excellent presentation of the events likely to take place, I have now listed them on the events page.

If you know your definitely going to this event I would advise you to book your hotel asap, if others are deciding later, we can try to get the same hotel or near to you and travel down together.
The Spring Rally web site http://ox.mx5oc.co.uk/ should be up and running soon, so advice on hotels and B&B's will be listed there, I do know that a camp site has still to be confirmed.
Some links for accommodation below, although Travel Lodge on line booking is coming up as fully booked, might be worth a phone call.

Will discuss further at Planning meeting.

Interesting debate!
It's true the majority of club members are midlands and south England based and as said, southern members voted by their feet and did not to attend the rally in Edinburgh and that's to be expected, Edinburgh is a long way for some. However that does not dismiss the argument that we up here should miss out on having a rally OCCASIONALLY (say once every 4 years) in our area because those down south don't want to travel. Those who are willing to travel south (and that's not me by the way) shouldn't have to all the time. No wonder membership is low up here, little support from national. If the club is to grow then it must expand it's horizons and from time to time follow SPOCK's advice, (the needs of the few outway the needs of the many!!!!)
Edinburgh is still a 4hour journey for me, but I must say I thouroughly enjoyed the Edinburgh Rally. Anyway 400 cars is still a joy to behold.
Wonder how a rally in Inverness would go down??????
We do have some of the best roads in the UK up here and few have experienced them.
Will be hoping to go to this years rally in Lincolnshire, family are down there.

Paul..lots of issues there, have copied your post over to http://www.mx5scotland.co.uk/forum/view ... =8193#8193
so that we can discuss further, leaving this string for Spring Rally arrangement comments. Hope you don't mind.
