Cloth hoods.

Postby grouse » Sat Jul 31, 2004 12:31 pm

Anyone have any experience of cleaning cloth hoods?

Or any recommendations for cleaning/maintenance products?

Thanks
Gordon.

I use Autoglym Bumper Care on my hood - it's a bit like frog spawn  when it comes out of the bottle but seems to do the job fine. It needs done about once a month to keep the "black" look. I think it's designed for car parts which are made of black plastic or rubber and go grey with time.

I've just done mine yesterday using the same stuff that Richard is recommending. The last time I used it was 2 years ago. It's good stuff.

Hoods

Thanks Richard, Gavin,

That's the only only product I saw, trawling round the "boys' toy shops".

I just wondered if you had some "secret tips"...?
I'll just keep the hood down and out of sight....!! :)

Hi Doug!

Well spotted!
Yes, my Phoenix has a vinyl roof, and it's maintained with Armourall!
Pauline's car has a cloth hood, but it's not an MX5.... couldn't stand the competition! :)

Gordon, watch the bit at the bottom rear of the centre panel in any cloth hood, the driver's side of it seems to get discoloured. I have noticed it on SAABs, Audis and BM's, our grey cloth roof is the same. I used the stuff Richard recommends and it is very good
