Changed rocker cover

Postby tracy primrose » Sun Jul 10, 2005 11:34 pm

Hi folks! I need some advice... I just changed my rocker cover to a polished one, and now my tappets are very noisy. They didn't make any noise before. Should I put the original rocker cover back on???

What is causing this? (I reused the old gasket for the time being. Does this 'lower' the cover?? Sorry if that sounds like a really silly question!) I even loosened off the bolts a bit, but there was no difference.

Will a new gasket solve the problem? I'm really, really, really hoping there is an easy solution to this because I've just got over the 'drill-shakes' from polishing the last one!

Thanks guys!

Did the inside of the cover look identical? Are all the baffles in place?

Hi Richard!

The rocker cover is the one that came off Tracy's car, and her engine was running fine (slightly tappety, but her tappets sound the same with her new cover on). My tappets are a lot noisier. The cover looked identical inside to the one I took off, and was only off for a matter of days. The tappety noise does not improve with oil circulation/pressure, or operating temperature.

Ok, will change the oil. (Wonder if Phil could help me with the filter  ?) What oil do you recommend? I've seen a lot of differing opinions on the forum.

I almost took the cam cover back off today, to have a look inside, but it was too hot, hot, hot! 8)
