help - any ideas?

Postby smashed andy » Sat Oct 23, 2004 10:08 pm

serviced car 2day, and engine bay was abit manky, so degreased it and hosed it down. (done this hundreds of times before,

started it up and as usual abit spluttery, dried it off and went for a blast to help to dry it, pulled out of a junction and it nearly died, couldnt pull more than 2000 rpm sounds like a limiter.(no splutters)

limped home and checked the plugs/leads, all are good. car runs nicely under 2k.
thought maybe the ecu was in safe mode so tried resetting it, both disconnecting battery and ecu harness.

no joy!

in the garage just now properly drying off and fully disconnected.

any ideas?

cheers

Have you checked in the spark plug wells?

Have you filled these with water? Dip a piece of kitchen roll in the well, don't remove the plug!

I agree with Richard ,the day I got my MX5 the garage decided to steam clean the engine before I picked it up and we didn't get far before we had to call them to say we had broken down ,but its was just water as Richard says. It was fine after that -go easy on the steam cleaning!!!!
Good Luck,

that was the first thing i checked but as it ran sweet under 2k ruled out the plugs and leads

found the problem tho,

water had got into the throttle sensor connector shorting out 2 or 3 pins and putting the ecu into some kinda safe mode.

dried it out and it ran very nicely up at edzel 2day.
