oil pressure

As far as I am aware the oil pressure gauge on this model is a 'proper' gauge giving relatively accurate readings (later models had what is best described as an on/off switch feeding the gauge). :?

When you say between 2 and 3 I am assuming that this is Bars, which in real money is approx. 28 to 42 psi. :D

With the engine warm and is idling (800 rpm) the pressure on my car is the equivilent of 2 bar, at speed, the pressure goes up to just below 60psi which would be 3.5 bar on your car. This is quite normal, the pump is running faster, the engine is working harder. 8)

When the engine is cold you will find that the pressure is higher due to the oil being thicker (viscosity), the pressure reduces as the engine, and the oil, warms up :o

If you imagine that oil pressure is like blood pressure in a human, pressure and pulse rate goes up and down depending on what you are doing.

To sum up I think that your engine is working fine and all is well. :D

Your cam cover gasket is leaking into the plug holes

I agree with Richard, your gasket is leaking and allowing oil into the cylinders. Have this checked out ASAP.

Hmmm.... would that also explain my fluctuating pressure gauge when at idle?

No...........have you had the car checked out properly,if your putting in a half a litre of oiland no leaks....it's burning it.......but if two of your plugs are covered in oil and as you posted there is no oil leak and your loosing pressure.only says one thing to me :(
