Sods law applies here

Sods Law Dictates:
Whatever CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong at the most inoportune moment.

It happened to me yesterday. (Friday)

Getting the car (Greddy Turbo) all ready for the charity Lands End to John O'Groats run and I find a wee oil leak.

There is no such thing as a GOOD oil leak, so I had to investigate it.
It was high up in the engine bay and had smeared the inner bonnet and around the Turbo.

First thought was "Turbo Oil Seals" ! <Gulp>

Removed pipes from the Turbo...no oil inside them ?

Put them back on, started car and SWOOSH...wall to wall oil.
All over my garage walls.

My first thought was "dont panic".
My second thought was "YES --- Panic like HELL" !

The pipe from the high pressure side of the powered steering had fractured.
Now, Friday morning, where do you get one of these beasties in a hurry in North East Scotland ?

Erm.............. you dont !

I drove all the way up to Fraserburgh to a place I know and they fabricated one for me in much better materials for ?50.

Mazda had, on the phone quoted me ?120 plus the VAT and could not get me one very fast either, bless them !

Worth remembering not ALL oil leaks in the engine bay are from the engine though :-)

Anyway, car all sorted now :-)

Below shows where the pipe work was all removed.

Below shows THAT VALVE !
The pump is engine driven so it the oil comes out at a fair rate on knots ! LOL

Mack

Know what you mean.....After slapping myself on the back for getting a new set of Sport alloys off Mazda under the warrenty :D , I was told that one of the tyres had less than 2mm tread remaining so did I want a new tyre. :(

Wheels already off the car, I said yes and picked the car up later with nice shiney wheels.......Went away abroad on holiday for a week and came back to dreadful weather so I let the wife have the car for the week.......Got a phonecall at work on Thursday....eh, hello dear.....that new tyre is looking rather soft!! :(

Thursday night, wheel off, down to Kwik Fit, inside of tyre wall shredded!!!! After shopping around, a hundred quid for a new Bridgestone!!

Who says life is fair and why is it always the brand new tyre that had just gone on the car???? The nail could just have easily chosen one of the older ones so as not to make me feel so bad!

Sods law says it all!!!

Cheers

EVERYWHERE......engine bay....all over exhaust.....all over bonnet / wings / turbo / bloody EVERYWHERE as it was under pressure.
No one could tell WHAT colour it was !
Tasted and smelled like Automatic Gearbox oil if that helps ?

Just got down to English base and the fumes are filling the car and I am laying down smoke screens everwhere as the heat burns off everything under the bonnet !
Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hit the heavy side of 120 at one point just after the Motherwell turning, and when I looked in my rear view..... I couldnt even see the road behind me ! LOL
