Crankshaft Pulley Mk2.5VVT

Postby scooobydont » Wed Apr 22, 2015 6:19 pm

Hi Folks,

Car has been in for a service and timing belt change, the chap I use cannot get the crankshaft pulley out, it is seized in solid. Swearing, brute force, heat, all methods have been exhausted. I have looked for new and second hand and have not been able to find one anywhere, does anyone know where I am able to get hold of one?

He knows how he is going to get the old one out (I forget the method he called it) but, it will mean the old one will be useless once removed.

On a plus note, he took the tray of the underside to inspect the chassis rails, despite several ceased bolts to remove the tray, the chassis rails are good (major relief!)

Cheers.

The crank pulley is held on by 4 small bolts and in theory it comes off with some effort.

In my case it was stuck on.

I had to remove the 21mm crank pully bolt that in theory you do not have to do to change the cam belt.

I damaged the pulley and a secondhand one off Autolink was about £70 or so.

This is the new price plus vat but discounts are available

Phone autolink as they may have a secondhand one

Try AK automotive on 01207 544 071 as they break MX5s.

Put a wanted ad on www.mx5oc.co.uk.

There are MX5 breakers on there that will probably offer you a secondhand part.
