water ingress passenger footwell

Postby iain cooper » Sat Apr 11, 2015 4:44 pm

water is coming in to the passenger footwell.

it is dripping from above the fuse box somewhere and landing on the floormat. (2013 RC graphite )

any ideas where it is coming from?

Had the same leak and replaced both scuttle grommets. Parts from MX5 Parts. http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/windscreen-co ... -3199.html. I also bought 2 of the plastic screw covers as it is easy to break them while removing.

Probably skittle grommets as stated but as it's still under warranty I'd take it back to the dealer and complain.

thanks guys, I wouldn't have thought this would happen on an 18 month old car, but going through the links/posts there are indeed newer models with this problem.

I know I should really take it back to the dealer to be sorted but am tempted to have a look myself.

any further tips on the fix ?

Iain

ps how are the scuttle grommets held into the rectangular holes ? ie what stops them being pulled out when the screw is tightened ?

Our car was around 6 years old when I replaced the grommets. The foam at the base had disintragated thus letting water in. If you look at the pictures of the grommet on the MX5 website you can see clips at the sides, these hold them in place.

I took mine off, cleaned the area with white spirit and replaced them using loads of sealant - did the trick! I find it surprising they do deteriorate since there is no movement in that area to cause problems.
