Some newbie advice please

Postby the stripler » Fri Jan 30, 2015 7:31 pm

Hi folks
I've just bought an 08 plate 1.8 and would like to change a few changes.
First thing is tyre noise on the 16" wheels is LOUD,how ever I've picked up a set of 17's and would like to know what's the best size of tyre to go for ...For comfort and low noise level.
Also....as I'm putting on 17's do I have to change the springs/ride height.
I've bought the car for leisurely drives not for scratching so prefer comfort and quiet over noise and handling.
Cheers

The noise tends to come either from the tyres getting hard or the flaps at the bottom of the back cabin drains not closing so letting the noise back into the cabin.

Therefore handy to get the car in the air to check the bottom of the rear cabin drains.

The Mazda recomended tyre sizes are.

205 50 16

205 45 17

Their is no need to change the springs but a number of people go to 30mm lower springs.

If you do not change the springs or after changing them if you do, you should get a full 4 wheel laser alignment done.

Only fit lowered springs if you live in town and not up a farm drive or have friends you visit on unmade roads.
