Postby JohnPaul » Thu Aug 05, 2004 5:31 pm

Hi all
Does anyone have any advise on Fitting crome dashboard dial rings to a mk1. I've had a look and it looks like i'm going to have to separate the clear front panel from the cluster which are glued together. Please help!

Yup, you do have to remove the clear panel unfortunately. I've got some chrome rings to fit too but haven't quite got round to it yet (6 months and counting) because of what the job entails. I have heard of two methods :

i) heat the whole unit gently with a heat gun to try and melt the glue

ii) take a dremel to the join and CAREFULLY carve through it.

Personally, I fancy the first option but am very worried about getting it wrong. More info over on the UK MX-5 OC Forum.

you only need to separate it if you are doing the large rings
