Chrome Tail Pipe

Postby Colin & Margaret » Sun Sep 26, 2004 7:56 pm

Can anyone tell me where I can get a chrome tail pipe for the Sport? The pipe on the car looks as if it's stainless however, there is some corrosion and it looks a bit scabby.

Went to my local accessory shop and ordered one that I thought would be large enough (60mm diameter) but this is just a fraction to small and will not fit. :( I even tried cleaning up the outside of the pipe on the car and the inside of the new chrome item but got no further. :(

When I spoke with the shop, they advised that 60mm was the largest they could get unless I bought a boy racer drainpipe. I want to keep the pipe looking standard but with a chrome finish to just tidy up the back end so the drainpipe is out. 8)

Advice gratefully received. :D

Cheers

Colin

Hate to say it, but have you tried Ripspeed (Halfords) ?

Although chrome will look good when it's new you will have a devil of a job keeping it looking nice. The exhaust gas is full of nasty acids that eat into chrome very quickly. :(

A good quality stainless steel one will look good for far longer. 8)

Colin...if your car is a 2002, surely the chrome factory fit tail pipe should clean up with one of the chrome cleaner/polishes, my own 98 model (original) still cleans up ok.

I have a Mazdaspeed backbox with a 3 inch tail pipe, the tailpipe was getting a bit dull and when i duraglited it,it pitted a bit as i think i took some of the clear coating off over the goldy coloured pipe with Mazdaspeed stamped on it.I bought an 80mill chrome sleeve to cover it and had no probs getting one, they had all different sizes and just bolt on over the existing pipe...........i bought this from Alister at Autogear,Dean st,Kilmarnock,i do get a discount in there, but it was only a couple of quid off....i think it was about 15 or 20 quid, give him a try as he will have a size to cover your tailpipe........or ring City Tyres and Exhausts in Kilmarnock and they will cut your tail pipe off and weld a new shiny one on for you........you will get a club discount in there, just mention that and say my name, and they will fix you up if you'd rather get a tailpipe welded on :)

I couldn't get one to fit in Halfords, all 60mm which is too small, so went to local Pakistani shop in the town and got one no bother, they specialise in boy racers, but I just bought the simplest one I could get, and it looks great, think it was ?15. The shop is on West Blackhall St in Greenock.

Douglas, Halfords were not much use. However, I went and had a look at the tailpipe to see if it would clean up and hey presto, a nice shiney tailpipe was lurking under all the muck!! :D

Does anyone want to buy a nice new Chrome Tailpipe (60mm)???

Cheers

Colin
