Photobucket problems

Postby JimF » Sat Feb 10, 2018 6:53 pm

Unfortunately I can't see some photographs due to Photobucket not allowing 3rd party hosting. I believe photobucket are asking hundreds of pounds to allow you to share on web sites. Should we change the instructions on the "frequently asked questions" section of the forum on how to upload photos using a different programme to Photobucket. Or is there an easy fix to get around this photobucket problem.

If the instructions mention Photobucket yes they should be changed.

Photobucket is a photograph hosting website site not a programme.

If you use the Chrome Browser to surf the net or the Firefox browser to surf the net there are addons for these browsers that get round the problem but I would think that the Owners of the Photobucket website may well be working on a way to stop these above mentioned web browsers from get in the Photbucket back door.

BotoPhukkit have worked around the crack code that bypassed their Dick Turpin block unfortunately.
If you have photos there as the only example, they are prisoners.
So, yes, alternatives are a good idea.
A few people have "cancelled" their account...but it's a better way to get back at them by not doing so as it costs them to host.

Could any members recommend an alternative photographic hosting website that we can use for the forum

I found Photobucket simple to use and would have paid for a reasonable monthly fee to keep using it. On the other hand many commercial organisations misused the site and ran businesses of it without paying a reasonable fee.

I now use imgur.com which I do not find to be as easy to use as Photobucket but it works.

Post Image is quite good, allows you to join and host images or simply upload random ones and link to them.

You can upload photos to the forum without the need for PhotoBucket. If you click on "Reply" (rather than Quick Reply) there is an "Upload attachment" tab just underneath the text box where you type in your reply. Simply choose a file to upload, then repeat as necessary, then insert in to your post using the options provided.

I find imgur very good for hosting pics. I've used it for years. No need to register. You just drag and drop your pic (or pics) onto the web page and then, once it's uploaded, you are taken to a page where you can get links for sharing it by clicking a small arrow in the top right of the uploaded pic.

There is an extension that you can get for Firefox and Chrome that allows you to see ransomed Photobucket pictures but I think switching to an alternative host for future pics is definitely the way to go.

Bob read the message from SI two above yours. Unlike TM, MX5Scotland allows you to load pictures directly with your message as TM did until a few months ago.

Therefore why run a MX5Scotland photo hosting site when the board allows you to do this already.
