I've a feeling that Steve at Goodwoodsportscars has done such a valuation for a member in the past - he's based down in Berwick so not too far to travel.

Sorry are we talking about two different things here.

An independent engineer will give an opinion if say the brakes are up to standard or if welding to a chassis or corrossion makes a car safe or not.

An indepensent valuer will using his experiance of the car market, advise the price a on a car to reflect what it's market value is.

While some engineers will do both.

Steve has a very good handle on car values, he may well not be an independent engineer, not giving any opinion on Steve at all.

It depends what the insurance company wants a techical examination or an independent valuation.

I was confused with the request as well , but Adrain Flux has specifically asked for an independent engineers report from a member of the institute of Automotive Engineers and Assessors,I have used Adrain Flux many times for classic and vintage and never had this problem, the insurance on the car was taken out months ago but has never turned a wheel because of the ridiculously low valuation, in other words I'm paying for insurance I can't use

Thay have a name for that from the OC forum as they do not want to put higher values on cars.

In saying that some MX5 owners have unrealistic thoughts on their car's values.

Each to their own and if you have a mint ca,r I can see your problem but I would just drive the car or cancel the insurance take the hit and insure with someone else.

Eddie
The price I have been given wouldn't even buy an old import, For the money that's offered I could buy a rusty mk2 off eBay, you pay a premium for an agreed valuation so it's not that I'm getting something for nothing, your possibly right cut my losses and go somewhere else it's not worth the hassle, they won't get anymore business from me

Club members can take out agreed valuation policies with a couple of the Club insurers and Area coordinators can sign off on inspections of the vehicles condition and parts list for the insurer.
That is one of the things that comes with membership, and probably worth plenty more that your £35 subscription to join the Club.

I have agreed valuation on my Eunos with Footman James and it was painless to arrange (obviously the proof would be if I ever needed to claim, hope not!).
Previously in a 2003 Montana, now in a 1991 V-Special...
