Can't Wait

Postby BoabG » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:21 am

Well that's my 5 away for 2 weeks for a wee bit of fetling and pampering, already done the timing belt, water pump, new rollers, full service, new discs and pads, nice sports stainless exhaust and a new double din stereo, lexus style rear lights and zunsport grille. Now she's away in to get her body looked at, the rust cut and replaced with nice new metal, then bumpers, doors, bonnet, boot lid and possibly the wings along with all the fittings and lights, badges etc removed, for a nice full respray. 8) 8)

Can't wait to see her finished. The paint shop i hope is going to be taking some pictures along the way for me. They are also using a new treatment for under the arches, it's like a memory rubber that repairs itself. They clean the arches down to the metal, undercoat as normal then spray them black, after that the coating is shot in to place before the car is painted, as they bring it right to the edge of the arch lips.

So she should be just about ready for spring. :D fingers crossed for a good summer..

My mate got his BMW Aplina done there and it looks fantastic, there was quite a bit of damage to the bodywork through a wee accident.

Car all stripped down now, so went and had a look, wasn't happy with the wings and sills so, just ordered new sills from mx5 parts, will get the arches and wings delivered tomorrow. Some may think i'm mad spending this much on an 04 but i like it and when done going to be a real cracker. The arches are also going to be bonded on so no distortion problems with welding where they meet the body, they will be welded at the bottom as per normal. Everything will then be rubber sealed so will future proof her from the dreaded rust.

More updates to follow .. oh and pics eventually.

Was in at the body shop yesterday, new sills front wings and rear arches have arrived. The rear arches on my car have now been removed. Bonnet, boot lid, bumpers, mirrors etc have all been prepped and covered ready to paint.

All the new panels should be fitted this week. Then the doors can be removed and the fun part begins.

Yes there is before pics not got them yet still on paint shop computer. Once car is done he's putting them all on a pen drive for me. Let's just say my heart sunk when I saw the mess it's in. I'm going back in Friday to get another update.

Its going to look stunning and a very sorted car with a comprehensive rebuild history, pics and receipts.

Good to see one being saved, and that looks like a tidy job.

The piston on that front brake calipers looks a bit crusty...

Just realised that wasn't the car being fixed here! :)

I have used East Coast for a long time, had my last Mk1 totally re- sprayed by colin after it contracted micro blisters !- he made a superb job . Most recently my R32 needed work - again a really good job , and reasonably priced , worth a visit .
