No service, no smile...

You may notice elsewhere I'm changing cars :D

To do this I want to take the Cobra back box off the current car and put the original back on, not sure if I'm going to have time to visit Drumtochty or not before heading south with the car..

I also want to put the one remaining powdercoated wheel that hasn't been used on the car to replace one scarred by a tyre fitting monkey...

I stopped in by a tyre and exhaust centre on the way home to see if they could do this tyre and exhaust related work.. not difficult you would think... price of labour, some revenue, contribute to turnover, useful things when you're running a business perhaps?

Not for Tawse Tyres in Inverurie, as I'm not actually buying any parts from them they're not interested... :(

I had the same thing when I with the local ATS. Was getting a puncture fixed, asked about them also fitting an MX5Parts exhaust and the chap in charge said they wouldn't do it. As I was leaving, the much younger guy working on my puncture grabbed me and told me to come back after 4 when the boss was gone and he'd do it for cash, the only caveat being it wouldn't be guaranteed. Seems to be like that for most of the tyre and exhaust shops.

Seems most big places are the same now. Possible to do the backbox lying under the car although easier on ramps. Easy job though if. The nuts are not too badly rusted. If it's in route you could pass by here and we could try and change it.

Which car are you going for?

We put it on at Eddies (Drumtochty) earlier this year so the bolts will be easy to undo, Eddie has a lift too which makes it a doddle, problem is time to do it as it's Company dinner dance this weekend thought Sat morning could be an option.

Gone for the Black one  :D

Tricky, well shout if I can help.

Wish I'd got a Cobra, the Racing Beat is just too civilised. Is yours a 'road' or 'racing'?

That black one is super smart and virtually new! Very nice indeed.

Few months ago my brother noticed the tyres on my mother's car were goosed. It was a Saturday afternoon so options were limited - sadly Kwik Fit (Forfar) were the only place open with the right size in stock. Drove down, 45 mins before closing time. Not another customer in site when he arrived or while he was there.

"How many tyres do you want sir"
"Four"
"Ah, sorry sir we close in 45 mins and need to sweep up. We only have time to fit one tyre."
"There are 2 of you here. Surely you can fit 4 tyres in less than 45 mins."
"No sir, 15 mins per tyre. And we need half an hour to sweep up. And one of us has to man the desk."
"How about you guys fit the 4 tyres, stay back a few mins if needs be and I'll give you each a tenner for a couple of pints? The car belongs to an old lady and you can see the tyres are knackered"
"No sir, we can't do that."
"Ok, how about you fit the two front ones since they are the worst and I'll just stick the other two in the boot and fit them myself when I have time?"
"No sir, we aren't allowed to sell parts without fitting them."
"How about you try to fit 2 tyres then?"

2 tyres fitted in 10 minutes...and they still refused to sell/fit the other 2 tyres! So not only are these places not interested in fitting a part to generate revenue, they aren't interested in selling a part to generate revenue either, nor are they interested in selling and fitting parts when there are more important things like floor sweeping to be done.

Only just seen this and while not able to offer an opinion on either of those back boxes I can highly recommend Eddies tuna rolls with a hint of Syntrans. Delicious.

Fit a manifold, or a BBR centre section if you want it louder. Manaifold will take out the front cat and give you a bit more power

It's got a BBR manifold. The silencer is I think built to Californian noise spec which is a bit quiet for me
