The people on miata.net say the streaming starts around 1:30am UK time and the car is shown at 2:00 UK time according to those on Miata .net who claim to have an inside source!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those poor IT executives who have to work everyday will be in bed by 10:00 pm but us retired punters can stay up unless we fall asleep before it starts.

initial thoughts;

It's definitely an MX-5, more evolution than revolution in looks.
When it arrives in the flesh, see how the air gaps on the wheels match reality..
Will need to see much more of it in context to really have an opinion a this stage.

So every car has a face, that one looks like a huge grin and a squint....a bit "special" or under the influence.

Got to say, on first look really not a fan of the ND, if retro is in at the minute why not got for a few design que's from the original, or if you're going to commit...commit fully!

But saying all that, it does look better from the side, I hope the rear lights are red this time!

I'd have to agree with Scotty Dugg - on first viewing, I can't say I'm that impressed. I really wanted to be blown away by the new ND, but alas not.

Yes, it is definitely an MX5, but somehow the proportions don't seem quite right to me and the styling seems a bit of a mish-mash. Anyone else see hints of the old BMW Z3 there? There's nothing specifically bad, and I'll reserve final judgement until I see one in the flesh, but overall it doesn't grab me the way a new "icon" car should (think F-type, think new Mustang, think Tesla Model S or even the new Corvette...).

But then again, maybe that's just me resisting change as I usually do!

I too had high hopes for the new Mk4, and have spent a fair bit of time today on line reading whatever I can and looking at the pictures, and sad to say I'm not impressed thus far either. The car looks alarmingly like a junior version of the Jag F Type ( a car I absolutely loath) so its not a good start for me. I will reserve judgement until I see it for real and drive one, but I don't much like the look of it so far. :(

On a brighter note, I was out today in my Eunos which is going better than ever, which cheered me up.

Funny, after posting above that I didn't like it, I just watched that video, and it certainly looks better in that than in any of the magazine stills I've seen.

Maybe I'll warm to it. :?

Aye

But will you all just wait 4 to 6 years to buy a secondhand one.

What Mr Mazda needs is punters to queue up next summer to give him £20 or so K for a new one.

OTOH there will be second hand Z4's and SLK's to consider.

certainly looks very nice on the video, reminds me of the Italian lines.

I was speaking to the MX5 salesman the other day when in for a service, and he seemed impressed, saying that it's under the 1000kgs ?

said he would give me a call when they have one.

Love it! Definately has sme Z3 and Z4 simlarites (which isn't a bad thing....). As Eddie says I wll be waiting for 4 to 5 years to own one. Bet it looks awesome in galaxy grey/jet black or even white.
Front end will take time to grow on me bt the rear end and rear lights look fab. I thnk it's a bold look. Let's just hope that rust problems have finally been put to bed.
