Insurance what!!!?

Postby Ronmac » Wed Aug 18, 2004 10:04 am

OK.

Can I ask fro costs of members MX-5 insurance.

I am in a state of shock being quoted ?350 for 5K miles on a ?2k 1.6 Roadster import.

Hell I am 55, 70% with current company Sainsbury's (CRV worth 10K costs me ?280!) and they would not even talk to me!

AON were a telephone disaster area, so not yet quoted.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

OK. Finally got AON insurance.

Delightful young lady named Hayley. Extremely helpful.

Quoted me ?269 at 5K pa Garaged etc, with ?250 excess ?40 windscreen.

She was very clear about insurance companies making differential betwen import and UK registered cars. MX-5 she says is NO problem to insure be it imported or not.

So, how does this compare?

Might be worth trying Elephant.co.uk. My 1.8s is under ?240 for fully comp. They are easy to deal with as its all done on the web.

You could also try

http://www.confused.com/. It will obtain quotes from a number of websites for you and email the results to you.

?333 for 5K miles a year.
I find the restriction on distance somewhat restrictive and am amazed that the insurance people are not aware of how simple it is to stop the oddometer reading ! ! !
Of course I would never condone this being done !
Are they maintaining that ONLY people who drive over 5K miles per year have accidents ?

So for ?333 I get::
1.6 Greddy Turbo, lowered, intercooled, can command up to 12 lbs of Turbo thrust and other bits I will not mention :-)
BUT....ah hem... I am a very sensible, caring for other road users, non hooligan type of person.
If you believe THAT you believe in the tooth fairy !

Hi folks

Might as well throw my tuppence in as I've not posted for a while ...

Just received quote from AON: MX5 1.8iS, 3 years old, 9000 mileage, bits bolted on and big alloys, and me 40+ (ahem) - ?370

Quote from elephant.co.uk - ?435

Bottom line is that it's worth shopping around, but each year AON is consistently my best quote by some way. Obviously suits some drivers better than others.
Cheers

insurance stuff

Postby Ronmac » Mon Aug 30, 2004 10:05 am

All Folks,

Thanks for ideas.

As for Mack and his odometer no one would seriously consider doing anything like this.....

It is true, shopping around is very worthwhile.

What strikes me as odd (apart from me) is this seeming ?100 extra for Eunos accross the board. So, say a Eunos is approx ?500 less market value than a UK spec.

You would need to drive the UK car for 5 years to make the cost differential. (Or have I this the long way round?)

Excuse the logic that is in their somewhere, but I am fighting XP SP2 upgrade and a plethora of adware each item being removed manually by me with RegEdit.

Great Fun!!

I really need to get out more, especially in a wee red/green/whatever MX5!

Word on the street is avoid SP2 and wait for new release with bug fixes.

Get onto Google groups and trawl through the postings Adaware, editing registry not always enough. System restore sometimes contains malware too...bloody nuisance!

Still patiently waiting for our first MX5.

Chris,

XP stuff I agree with NOW!

AdWare is back again and MP services in printer is kaput!

Howeevr, I do like the sp2 firewall, very intrusive and protecting. I think my adware was never properly removed as you suggest.
