Oh no! My MX5's in the workshop! :(

The story so far....
We're on holiday in Oban :D
Rainy (very) day on Tuesday - we go to Connel and Benderloch.
Very wet - wipers, blowers and, eventually, lights on... :(
Battery light comes on!! :o
Switch lights off - battery light goes off! :D
Minutes later, light on again! :(
Cut a long story short..... Battery light on and off - no logical reason....
Return to holiday home - phone home dealer - no idea .... :?
Phone European Assistance... out they come.. alternator has no output! :(
Car on low-loader to Dundee - hire car delivered from Glasgow!! :)
Enjoy holiday :D
Phone dealer (Barnetts Dundee) - nothing wrong with car! :shock:
But, they've ordered new alternator, and will fit next week! :)

This is odd - 2 year-old car, 15k miles, intermittent battery light... :o

Anyone got any ideas??

(I've now having to sweet-talk Pauline into letting me drive her rag-top - and it's costing me!!) :( :( :( :(

Seeing as no-one else has replied, I'd suggest it possibly is a dodgy alternator. If it's not that, then the battery may be gubbed.

In the Renault Clio I used to have (yes, yes, I know) the battery went after just three years (25K miles) and suffered from a dead cell (apparently).

Easiest way to check that the alternator is functioning is to measure the voltage across the battery with the engine running. If it's sitting at 14 (or more) volts then it's probably ok.

Also, has the dealer considered a slack belt??

The alternator saga!

After 7 days in the hands of the Mazda Stealers, G1 came back last night
- with a new alternator, as originally predicted by the recovery guy in Oban, who had measured the output from the alternator as zero! Simple meter job.

We still don't know why - but I am anticipating an answer before the day is out.

This is my first experience of Mazda trying to solve a problem, and, boy, did they turn this into a drama, a crisis and a farce! :shock:

I got to know a few people in Mazda UK quite well and, although all very nice, couldn't organise a p***-up in a brewery!

At 1000 yesterday, a nice lady at Mazda phoned me to tell me that despite her best effotrs, and those of a colleague at the port-of-entry, my alternator couldn't be available before Friday. :( :(

Why not "rob" a new car, said I - for the umpteenth time? :?

Off she went to ask the "stealer", and phoned me back at 1020 to tell that the alternator had arrived in Dundee that morning!! :oops: :oops:

Is it any wonder that, when I went to collect my car, there was no-one in sight?

Today - the inquest! :evil: :evil:

Car seems fine, and had a "welcome home" bath and cuddle! :D :D

PS I was offered a FREE service to make up for the inconvenience (at 1000hrs) - offer was withdrawn at 1020 hours!!
Hope somebody in Mazda is reading this..... :roll:
