Concrete this week, probably three or four weeks for the shed then as soon as that is done get the lift installed.

Just remebered I have not got the uprated wire armoured mains cable yet. Have to get that tommorrow to be buried before the guys leave.

Alex

I will believe it when I see it. This project started three years ago and hopefully the concrete will be poured on Friday.
There will be problems finishing the design of the shed extension but hopefully it will progress.

I'm afraid geographically there are very few MX5 DIY owners in the visinity but hopefully some Tayside or Grampiam members will avail themsleves of the facilities FOC when I get it finished.

Garage Extension (1 of 4).jpg
Garage Extension (2 of 4).jpg
Well garage extension has started you might think that is a large garage extension. OK it is bigish but look at a further post for the real useful size.

You will notice a red steel goal post that holds up the back of the old roof and the front of the new roof. That steals some length of the garage when you want to lift a car. So believe it or not the length of the extension is on the tight side due to tree routes and other physical stuff in the road.

Also I did not want the garden to look like an industrial unit.

Garage Progress (1 of 4).jpg

The weather board is on the sides and back of the extension.

The original garage felt is 11 years old so that will get tin on top. Then the weatherboard on the front of the extension after that tin goes on to the original garage. Then the tin goes on the extension garage roof. The height of the extension is to allow a lift to be fitted. I was wanting the extension to be 8 mtrs long but due to tree routes etc the max length was 6.3 mtrs.

Yes I has to paint each piece of weatherboard.

The piece of red painted steel will be used to hold up the front of the existing garage and allow a full width insulated roller door rather than two pairs of wooden doors.

Garage Progress (3 of 4).jpg

The wood on the floor outlines a Range Rover that my neighbor drives The next piece of green wood on the floor is where the Impreza/ MX5 would be and the other piece of wood shows where the Suzuki Jimny Jeep goes.

So if I'm working on a Range Rover there is room but not lots of it.

Joiner is due back next week sometime but is juggling two jobs.

The structural engineer speced 150mm deep timbers in the extension and all internal surfaces clad in OSB3 board to stiffen it up. Therefore I will put 150 mm insulation in the walls and above the ceiling and it should be reasonable cost wise to heat the garage. The structural engineer also wants the original garage internally lined with OSB board to stiffen that up, so it gets 100mm insulation as the timbers are 100mm deep in the original garage.

I was right at the top of the back of the shed on a scaffold putting on a second coat of wood stain.

The scaffold was shaking a bit.

Call me a wimp but I was scared of falling off!

I was not impressed in the least.
