Another day, another problem

Postby smiles » Mon Sep 24, 2012 9:28 am

Hi guys and girls I woke up this morning to a crap radio as my aerial wouldn't go up. I noticed that it was sticking up slightly about 3" but just the top part. I think it has come of the teeth in the gear as it will go up and down if I lift it up put when I let go it falls straight back down again. I had a look on mx5parts and I listen to the radio but it's not worth £100+ is it an easy fix or am I gonna have to start singing to myself??

the easiest option is to replace it with a manual aerial, a five minute job with a 10mm spanner / socket.

here's one on ebay but i would query his postage costs !

it is worth buying a proper mx5 aerial, a generic replacement will not fit properly and may damage the wing.

Take the radio out & fit a blank. Why do you want to listen to eedjits singing when there's that beautiful engine note to listen to?

I'll buy one from mx4 parts it's the aerial leader that's broken as I found out watching a tutorial on YouTube from America. Just means I need to dismantle the whole aerial... This will end in tears and will end up braking vital pieces but hey need to learn somehow lol.

Been there, did it on my Mk2. A piece of the white flexi had broken off in the fixed housing. So it was remove the whole thing, dismantle, very black gooey stuff in there. Re assemble and replace in the car. On the Mk2 you have to stand on your head to do it.

Have plenty of rags / kitchen roll available to protect from the black stuff.

Cheers mate I'll order the new aerial for my day off on Friday. I would love to listen to my lovely engine noise but can't hear if for the 2 holes in my exhaust sound more like a jcb
