NB factory windbreaker/soundboard speaker replacement

Postby ard » Thu Mar 31, 2011 9:46 pm

Has anyone with the OEM windblocker/speaker combo on their NB ever tried to replace the speakers? The original ones are terrible, to the point that I have my fader set to barely use them at all - I think they're identical to the tweeters mounted up front.

They're about 2" in size, but I can't find any replacements online that have the same diameter between the mounting holes... any advice?

Clearly, I should have posted this in the ICE forum... can a mod move it please?

Can't answer the question but I would be interest to know as I have installed a roll bar and had to take the soundboard / windbreaker out but I have since squeezed it back in and hold it in place with cable ties (very professional). Now the speakers are wedged up against the seats so no doubt I get no sound out past them now.

I've been doing a bit of digging online with limited results.

I've also removed the speakers from the board - they have a square hole pattern with 80mm diagonal, and the cones themselves are ~55mm diameter. They're ~30mm deep, and are marked as 4Ohm 25W drivers.

I can find a whole bunch of speakers online which are between 70-90mm diagonal, but none are exactly 80mm. I suspect that I might have to attack either the new units or the cavity with my Dremel.

These look like potential candidates, or there's a selection on this page which might do the trick. It'd be nice to shoehorn a pair of 3" drivers in there, but I'm not sure there's enough depth. Watch this space!
