Aug 14 th run

Postby rockdoc » Tue Aug 02, 2005 6:23 pm

Kristoff/
It was mentioned at the kildrummy run from Tom & Blair that they were looking into having a run Tayside/Perthshire on the 14th,
If its a no-goer , what is the level of interest for another 110mile +/- run starting from Stonehaven taking in the Slug road-through Banchory-out to Ballater- back in lower deeside road through feuchside -south over the Cairn o mount road and back up to stonehaven through the Drumtochty glen, all crackin 5 roads.
Doesnt have to be on the 14th , maybe 28th?
What s the consensus -anybody interested :?:

The slug road run sounds good.

Much as I'd love to meet up with the UK boys in Fort Bill, Shona and me were down that way last month, and while it is now a pretty good run after the road has been recently re-surfaced, with nice black top...not chuckies, the more local run will do nicely.

Anyway, not done the slug road in the 5 yet, could be fun!!

There is a lot of family illness at the mo tho, so may have to bale out at short notice if the wife's folks start getting worse.

The (long awaited) details of the run around the North of Scotland on the 14th August are now available to view on the Events section of this site. Thanks to Douglas for processing the info at short notice, and apologies to everyone for taking so long to get this run off the ground  . If anyone is travelling from, or going through Dundee I'll be at the Kingsway Tesco Extra car park for a 9.30am departure for Blairgowrie. Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Recommend changing A923 to South on A93 out of Blairgowrie and then turn right onto A984 .. then turn right again onto A984 (a junction!!) .. turn left in Aberfeldy and you are straight over the bridge onto A9

The A923 is fun but always full of very slow traffic and there are only about 2 overtaking spots in 20 odd miles.. so convoy time!

A984 is empty, sweeping with overtaking spots .. but I guess the scenery is not quite so nice.. but then the bumps and thumps may make passengers less happy (hey they do not matter at 30mph for 20 miles...)

Also change from B867 to A822 turning right up and over the hill at A826 .. B867 is a lot of scenic narrow road with overhead trees .. the alternative is open sweepers with a nice hill climb/descent over moorland

I use most of this route going from Aberdeen to Argyll to see the family .. might even be on it this weekend.

Hoping to catch you all up

Postby Colin » Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:55 pm

Hi Tom (and others)

Although I can't make the pre-lunch part of the tour, I'm hoping to meet the convoy somewhere between Killin and Crieff after lunch, and join the fun back to Blairgowrie.

If Tom could send me his mobile number and give me a rough idea when the group is likely to be leaving the Falls of Dochart, I'll keep in touch with him on the day and hopefully find you all!
Cheers

Try this link, however as I am not that computer friendly it may not work. If necessary post again and I will try and give actual directions!

Tyred of punctures

Postby Colin » Sun Aug 14, 2005 3:32 pm

Hi folks

Apologies for not turning up at the run today. In a spooky repeat of the run from Perth a couple of years ago, I tested my tyres in the driveway just as I was setting off, and found that the same tyre had a puncture in it! Having spent an hour finding a tyre depot and getting it patched, there's no way I could have made it to Crieff in time to meet you all, so went for an ice cream in Dundeeinstead.

Sorry about that, and I'll make a special effort to make the next one. Catch you all later and hope you had a good day!
Cheers

Hi Tom, Blair, Chris and whoever was in the red car today, (Andy perhaps) we spotted you all as you climbed the hill towards Lochearnhead, we were in the car park at the snack bar with the Peaks & Penines guys and gals, Dave and Caroline were behind you as you came out of the Killin road, tried radioing you, but I guess you never heard us. Hope you had a good one, it was a cracking day to be out with the cars.
