Treasure Trail event 13th May

Postby The Pram » Thu May 03, 2007 1:24 pm

Meet in the car park, Asda Huntly. There is a café there for those who want breakfast.

The morning run will take the form of a Treasure Hunt. The route notes and clues will be handed out at 10:30 and the participants follow the instructions on a superb route using wee roads over the hills towards Dufftown, then following the Spey upriver towards Grantown, with a detour round the Braes of Castle Grant. En route you will see countless distilleries, hundreds of pheasants and pass the Giants Chair and Glenbogle railway station. You will also have to negotiate several hairpins.

A picnic lunch will be held beside the Spey upriver from Grantown and the completed treasure sheets will be collected. If you have any picnic chairs it might be best to take them along (with a picnic as well of course).

The return route will be over the Lecht to finish near Bellabeg, but diverting to visit the houses of 2 famous people, see where a highland clansman died of his wounds, the cottage where the bobby was shot, and some other wee secrets. While the cars make their way along that route we will work out the winners of the treasure hunt and drive straight to the end of the route where we can all meet up and the winners of the Treasure Hunt can get a wee prize.

There are 2 possible locations for the actual end of the run, depending on the number of cars which turn up. The favourite would be Glenbuchat Castle but it has a very small car park.

Total distance from Huntly to the finish will be just over 100 miles. Fuel will be available in Grantown and note that there is no fuel in the Lecht / Upper Strathdon area.

Leaving at 10:30, lunch should be around 12:30 and if we leave again at 14:00 we would be at the finish of the run before 15:30. From the finish there are several roads to get participants north, east or south.

Leave a wee note if you intend to come along.

PS I hope we dont go near Kemnay    :?

Count me in on this one and I'll drag the other half along to do the note reading bit.
Actually she is more keen on doing this one than I am, I just like any excuse to drive the car :D

Message to all the NSS members out there.

Gutted that I can't make this event but, if you're thinking of going along, let me know (and Lorraine of course) and I'll set up a convoy and suggest a great route up to Huntly from Dundee; do it myself regularly.
Cheers

I might be on my own on Sunday so if anyone wants a passanger then I am happy to bunk up if it means you can go. Either that or another single bod can come with me, if you trust my driving that is
Open to offers anyway.
