You better be careful not to get so much downforce you break the rear suspension!

Hate to say this, but it's probably illegal. I'm sure there's some legislation that states that any spoiler may not protrude further than the width of the car.

Other than that, totally OTT and just what I'd expect from you Mack :D

Paul
if you think THAT wing looks weird should have seen me out with stickertape on it to work out the area / speed to gain the best down force before locking the spoiler in position...LOL

Took me two trips out (Main roads and back roads) and nearly 4 hours to set it up, but I aint Ferarri with a zillion ???? wind tunnel...LOL
Wee shot below of the setting up procedure below :-)

Hi Richard...LOL...no stickers :-)
See they are trying to get rid of me now !
Notice at the top of this reply page in BOLD RED !

Note : The MX5 Owners Club promotes safe, courteous and legal driving practices at all times. Posts which do not adhere to these principles will be removed and membership of the forum by the poster may be revoked.

Talk about BIG BROTHER !
We have the Government telling us how to think !
We have the cops taking all out money !
We now have the OC telling us how to DRIVE !
Me thinks they should put their OWN PERSONAL driving skills right before picking on others :-)
Me thinks I best look for a club / forum where they understand they drive sports cars of sorts and not PRAMS

Postby loftladderman » Mon Sep 20, 2004 9:42 am

Dont cheer too loudly yet Tom :-)

I shall not leave till I am booted out and leave them to explain why :-)

After the way I helped with others to raise the Clubs profile on the Charity Run (while others stayed away wailing, moaning and clashing teeth) ..........and the even better way we have planned for next year, they may have a job doing it on the strength of a few off the beam messages :-)
We shall see...ha haaaaaaaa

If they wish a Club full of old boring fuddy duddy's they are going the best way about achieving this.
I may be old but I dont do fuddy duddy I am afraid :-)

I thought the OC club was for the members, not as a means of controlling folk by the Committees PC hobby horse ?

I am not sure ??? but the notice may have come about because I posted a photo of my car doing 140mph on a private road, which was stated as thus.
I was emailed that the POLICE were interested in this.
Strange I have not received a vists from them yet is it not ?
Load of balloney !
Photos taken on the back straight at Edzell Strip and nothing they or anyone else can do about it :-)
Could have been taken on a rolling road for all anyone knows :-)
Could be wrong, have been once before when I was about 6 years old :-)
If they are objecting to THIS...whats next pray ?

Mack... I have to say that I too am absolutely dumfounded by being told what I can and cannot talk about on here. Being a responsible adult, I take pride in not swearing on the forum, not being rude to others and not talking about things that give me great pleasure but aren't cars.
To be warned that I'll be chucked off the board for telling others that I actually enjoy a blast down my favourite twisty B road at more than 60 mph is an utter insult.
Do the moderators think that in doing so some poor soul is going to be misled into trying the same and end up dead?
I buy almost every car mag going and in every one there is talk of 3 second 70-90 in gear times, the immense stopping power of the new mega fandango brakes from 140 etc etc etc. Would the moderator advocate that I should send them all back in disgust?
I would very much appreciate the moderator of the board who was responsible for the above instruction, contacting me to tell me exactly what is being achieved by such censorship.
For Gods sake lighten up eh....

I personally see nothing wrong with the statement. If I ......

1) drive unsafely
2) am uncourteous
or
3) drive illegally

...... why would I need to mention it on these, or any other, forums.

In any case, we all know that top speed means nothing these days!!

You're not being told what you can and cannot talk about.

Greg & Nic wrote:Being a responsible adult

That's debatable ..... I've seen your haircut ;)

Greg & Nic wrote:I take pride in not swearing on the forum, not being rude to others and not talking about things that give me great pleasure but aren't cars.

They say variety is the spice of life. Topical discussion isn't a no go area and I see nothing to suggest otherwise.

Don't think I've ever seen a post like that on these forums and hardly anyone (with the very odd exception ;)) ever mentions speed.

Greg & Nic wrote:Do the moderators think that in doing so some poor soul is going to be misled into trying the same and end up dead?

Of course not ...... but if you'll all send ?10 to my PayPal address then that'll really prove everyone does what we say here.

Absolutely... and while you're at it, cancel your subscription to Gardeners monthly ... I mean, those lawnmowers can be lethal.

 Why contact just you? Can't they post and let the whole forum know?

Just reminded me.....I reckon I had yours at maybe 90ish??
That'll be me banned then......not from the road of course, just the forum

I did put it up...... because I was asked to.

Greg & Nic wrote:And yes....we are being told (indirectly) what we can and can't talk about...." Posts which do not adhere to these principles will be removed and membership of the forum by the poster may be revoked."

Ah, now it's "indirectly" is it ;) It's a fair point, but as I've said before, this is not a cruise web site and it's supposed to be a club of mature and responsible people who appreciate the finer qualities the MX-5 has to offer. I still see no reason why anyone would want to post about bad behaviour (i.e. unsafe, uncourteous, illegal), and to be honest, in the 3 years I've been running boards for cars I see VERY few posts that are.

I genuinely don't see this message being a problem, and I'm the one LEAST likely to delete any posts (remember TurboCharged225?? he was the first person I've ever banned).

Greg & Nic wrote:No-one talks about speed? No wonder eh!

Again, what's the point?

Greg & Nic wrote:Just reminded me.....I reckon I had yours at maybe 90ish??

" it's supposed to be a club of mature and responsible people who appreciate the finer qualities the MX-5 has to offer"

Agreed......and all of the above would describe me fairly accurately.
I still think it's insulting to tell mature and responsible adults what they can and can't talk about........directly or indirectly.

Keep havin fun y'hear!!! (Below 70 of course... )

DROP IT

Postby loftladderman » Tue Sep 21, 2004 6:29 am

Nope
It was not Si who suggested this what I perceived to be a "gagging" order :-)

I cannot go into details BUT I have had it explained to me in great detail and accept the "other" side of this arguement :-)
Not often I see reason to be honest....LOL

The requirements of the many must take preference over the needs / deeds of the one.
The OC must be able to protect it's self against any LUNATIC (ie: ME) who may land "them" in unsafe areas (by writing in the forums) with the current laws and prosecuters who are only too happy to raise revenues from any source they can access !

So to clear matters up I have never driven my cars at over any speed limits ANYWHERE, nor will I :-)
Any photos pointing to the fact that I may have been breaking any laws were all faked in Paint Shop Pro and in Corel 11 :-)
My Turbo was taken from a Singer Sewing Machine and is a fake :-)
Any write up refering to speeds was all made up / invented etc.
My NOS tank has manure in it, as I am trying to run my car on the gases ommitted as I shake it up going slowly over bumpy roads :-)
END OF DISCUSSION !
