At last a pub meet - all welcome

Postby The Pram » Tue Jul 25, 2006 9:31 pm

Ok, been out for a wee drive tonight to suss out suitable pubs and reckon that the YTHANVIEW HOTEL in METHLICK, Ellon is a good first option.

Their website is www.ythanview.com if you want to check it out.

Midweek seems to be the preferred time so I suggest we go for a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night. I think I should be there for the first meet and what with my shift work, the only dates that suit are

Monday 14th , 21st August
Tuesday 15th, 22nd
Wednesday 16th, 23rd

There is the option of a bar snacks to full menu, outside covered area and real ale – yum yum.

I would hope that at this first pub meet we could amongst other things:-

See if this sort of thing is wanted or not
If we agree to pub meets then decide how often
Decide if we stick to the same pub or move around
Think about whether / how we organise a newsletter for the NS area
Ways to raise some cash – raffles, competitions and the like
Discuss proper runs in terms of who plans them etc
Think about the possibility of a group BBQ somewhere one weekend before the summer ends (those disposable things would be great)
Have a pint of real ale and a laugh.

If everyone can get back to me with preferred dates that would be great. I feel that the best option is to go with the majority.

Thanks

I know I'm not a member but Tuesday nights suit me best (normally have plans on a Monday and Wednesday evenings) but, as things stand, I can make all of those proposed dates...

Would have to be 7.30 or 8pm for me too as generally I struggle to get home (and swap cars) much before 6pm of an evening.

Again, I'll go with the majority :D

Finlay - what you mean is you are not a member YET

It just so happens a wee supply of membership forms plopped through my door this morning and it would be a shame to see them go to waste

So far its a split vote kind of thing. I suppose I could go to both weeks if that meant that we could get more opinions from folk - mmmm :?:

Here Here :!:

I have had a few, well 7, replies by email from members and of course yourself, so not all bad. I think maybe some folk have joined the club but maybe don't look at the forum. I am going to send a letter to the folk I have not heard back from to see if that works any better :?

Anyway, so far we have

1 - not Tuesdays
1 - prefer Tuesday
2 - 14th or 15th
1 - 22nd or 23rd
1 - can't manage at all
2 - any time

It is heading in the direction of 14th at the moment, especially if you can make it on the Monday Findlay  If there ends up being fair split between the two weeks I think we could do both.

Looks like my pub meets will be interesting to arrange, I would need to have one somewhere around Thurso for the Caithness and Orkney members, one in Stornoway, then a quick run over to Skye, then maybe a dash along to Inverness to meet up with the member from Dingwall, and then journey on to maybe Nairn or Elgin to meet up with the rest of the members. If I did it in one weekend, I would cover around 500 miles not including the sea crossings. It would be a 126 mile round trip to meet up with my closest member. But all in all, it could be an interesting run to try, I might try to arrange it for the August bank holiday weekend.

Bill, glad I didn't get your job  If things kick off again then maybe there should be two AC's for your area.

Oh hell, why not just divide up the North into small bits size chunks and make life easier for everyone :!:

Hi Lorraine, I am serious about trying this run over the August bank holiday weekend. Early ferry to Orkney, try to meet the two members from there, then back to Thurso, meet the one member from there, then to Ullapool via Dingwall, stay overnight if there is no late ferry, over to Stornoway, meet up with the one member there, drive down to Tarbert, ferry to Uig, then meet our member from Kyleakin, drive over to Inverness then Elgin or Nairn and meet the two members from that area, and then home.

Hi Bill

I'm a little disappointed you're not showing a bit more commitment to the club.

Fancy returning home via all the members in NoS South?
Cheers

Damn, that slipped my memory, ah well I suppose we really should make a detour down to the Classics, my liver has recovered enough from the previous ones. So that will be, down to Callander on the Friday and Saturday and the run around the NOS members on the Sunday and Monday, that might work out better as I don't know if there are Sunday sailings to Stornoway.

Still looking like the 14th so far. Will decide by Thursday night and post again, as off to Dublin for the weekend on friday and it is not nice to keep folk waiting.
