Hi Everyone,

Not got my 5 yet
(Waiting on owner to get the V5 back from DVLA)
But thought I'd say HELLOOOO anyways

I'm more into the Motorsport side of things
but I'm sure I'll pop along to a few runs and the like

If I get my 5 in time, I'll try to come to the Tech Sunday

Oh, and Hi Si

Have you guessed who it is yet :-)

Mark S (oh, I suppose that gives it away :D )

Hi Mark,
Tell us more about your impending MX5.

If you're into motorsport, a few of us are hijacking a Dreadnought tracknight at Knockhill on 18 July. It would be good to see you there.

I had a Mk1 MR2 but I never got the chance to pull any donutz in it  (the wife wouldn't let me!) But I did take it to Rockingham once:

So how was Rockingham?

I'm already going to Knockhill on the 27th, so don't think I can afford 2 track nights in 1 month, just having bought another car.
But just incase, how much is it & what time :-)
Also don't want to track the 5 until I have some sort of roll over protection, even a style bar will do.

2 peoples lives saved by a style bar

I think the decals give a clue as to what was under the bonnet

The 5 is a 91 Mk1 1.6 (O-pos :-))
it was red but been resprayed a Gun Metal Grey
which is chipping with red showing through
Interior is dry, think it's had a new hood.
Electrics all seem to work (but drivers window winds oddly)
So I'll be greasing the spirly windy thing :-)
engine ran from cold & exhaust gasses smelt ok
& no smoke or steam when warmed up
gearbox felt tight
(althouigh I didn't drive it, as it had a flat tyre & no road tax)
it's got adjustable suspension & new discs
and we'll just ignore the amount of rust on all 4 arches :D
oh and I think it needs new HT leads.... don't they all :-)

Hiya Mark!! Gald to hear you're finally becoming part of the 5 family

Is this new car going to be your track weapon? Will you be stripping it and losing a few more pounds to make the most of it?

Hi Si,

All my cars are track weapons :-)
I have 3 cars now, the 5 is to replace my daily driver Pug 205 GTi (1.6)
And I have an Audi A4 Quattro which I'll use as my everyday car

I hope to get some FI at some point
But just been speaking to Euan (the other Scirocco Twin)
and he had his S-Spec round Abingdon yesterday
He was saying he thought it went VERY well without FI
So I'm in no hurry

The first pic of Euan's car is HB3Z0007

(Oh, and for everyone else, Si took the picture of my Red MR2 :) )

Hey Mark,
I had some mates at Abingdon yesterday too! The red Mk2.5 is my mate Lazza and I know some of the other guys too.

I never got to drive the MR2 at Rockingham - the engine was on its last legs but I did get a go in this  :

mmm cool, now thats Open Air motoring :D
So what was it like? Griptastic I hope

Yeah, both my MR2's have had the head gasket go
They need the coolant changed every 2 years or the electrolitic inhibitor breaks down & the engine & coolant acts as a battery & eats the head gasket. (And most owners didn't do that)
Great little cars though, I'd have another if I thought there was any chance of it NOT blowing up on me :-)

So did your mate take this Vid?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4nieMzNyoDw
(Notice how quick he catches the Porsche 944 Turbo)

The handling on the Mk1 Atom was actually pretty poor. Later cars are much better by all accounts. It was pretty exhilirating though

The vid from Abingdon was taken by JonMad - I've met him once at Llandow last year - his car is fairly standard except for his seat (a Kirky aluminium job) and he runs Toyo 888s. I've got some vids from last year of us 'playing tag' at Llandow - once his tyres were up to temp, he certainly had the edge on me through the corners but I couldn't justify the expense for non-competitive trackdays - I had more fun on my rock hard Pirellis - I'll save my 888s for when it counts!

My mate Lazza has a very neat supercharged Mk2.5. I think its putting out about 230bhp. It whines like a banshee!!

I have in my hand a piece of paper....
it's the V5 :D
oh and a set of keys

I'll get some road tax tomorrow & go and recover the car from the owners house.
I hope to blag some time of work to do this, as it's only 5 miles from work.
So I hope to be driving home in a 5...
so if you see some grey haired idiot grinning like a cheshire cat... it's ME!

So, I will be wanting to attend the Tech day, do we have a time & location yet?

And Dave, when suits for me to come along and show off :D
