Newbie says Hello from Kilmarnock

Postby Jonny H » Fri Jun 29, 2007 5:25 pm

Hello everyone, I've just bought my first MX-5 - '02 plate, red, 1.8i, with heated leather seats, front fogs, Nardi wheel, 6 speed box and 16" alloys (not sure if any of these are standard). This car has been previously owned by an enthusiast and I will be looking for hints and tips on maintenance from you more experienced members. I am well pleased despite the rainy weather! See you on the roads of Ayrshire!

Howdy n'that

Thanks for the replies folks - nice to know I have a Sport model, it seems my 2 years of research into MX-5's was wasted because I didn't know that but what the hell, I'm happy! Actually, I'm not from Kilmarnock, I only live here, in the Grange. I'm really from (whisper it) Ayr. The car is an absolute blast now that the deluge has stopped. Do the 'boy racers' always want a challenge, or is it just the ones around here?

Talking of boy racers, I had the lid down on the A77 the other day when some clown in a yellow Subaru with all the stick ons passed me in the outside lane. He sat along side me for a wee while, realised I wasn't up for a race, then took off, blasting me with his straight through exhaust - my ears still haven't recovered, which I guess was his intention. Lord give me patience! 8) Still, my run to Maidens and Culzean was the best ever. I waved at a couple of MX-5's but got no response. I'll keep trying...

Great to see more new owners! 8)

Hmmmm Heated seats.....i cant seem to live without mine, i'm thinking of transplanting one into my horrible works clio

boy racers are a nusiance  although it can be quite funny when you are "challenged" (i mean that lightly) by a car that is "all show n' no go" (think 1.2 corsa or similar) , i'll take those rolling xmas trees to the cleaners any day on the twisties....mwah ha ha

anyways enjoy the excellent ride.

Hello to one Jonny from another!

My car came from Kilmarnock - well, from Japan, via the importer in Kilmranock!

The importer in West Shaw Street has shut down, don't know if he's moved or just packed it in altogether. I never saw any MX-5's in there, just other kinds of quick Jap stuff, lots of spoilers, loud exhausts and stick-on bits. I'm becoming aware of the light hearted banter on this site about colours and am well pleased to have a red one - I picked the colour to go with my eyes, silver would have gone with my hair! It's taking me a while to get confidence with the rear-wheel drive so I'm not throwing my wee car around too much, never sure if it's going to kick out the back end, that would be 'uncool'. Anyhow, thanks for the welcomes everyone, and see you on the open road. :D
