Looking to get a spare key cut for my 98 mk2, have not had any joy, went to timpson guy had to send away for one but was no use, car was imported so do the know if that makes any difference. Any ideas, will I have to contact Mazda?

Not if you are prepared to explain what the problem is with the key Timpsons provided.

Did it fit in the ignition barrel.

If it did, then did it not turn the lock barrel or not.

If it did, did the car not start.

Can you confirm that the car is a Mazda Roadster imported from Japan and was previoisly used in the Japanese Domestic Market.

Boy started to cut it but certain bits of the new key were not the right size so never even got the key.
Boy I bought it from said it was imported, has the Japanese tax disc and that on it and Japanese writing on all labels etc etc

Pain in the backside but you need to get the lock barrel out the righthand door and get the key number off it.

Then go to this webpage and order a key from autolink.

There may well be others who can do this for you!

http://www.autolinkmx5.com/key-mx-5-cut ... 2320-p.asp

or you can just get a blank and have your key copied.

Or it may just be as easy as the part number is shown to order off Mazda.

Cheers mate, probably go with the 2nd option and get the key cut from my original, seems a lot easier.

Just noticed there is a number engraved on the key 11983 you think that's significant?

Keys can often be ordered from the manufacturer if you know the key number. It's quite likely that's the number you're looking for. Worth a phone call to your dealer at least.

These guys say they can do it. They say up to 1995 but if they are a lot cheaper than the price you get from Mazda worth a shot.
