Hello from Perth!

Postby mazdathommo » Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:41 pm

Hi folks,

Looking for my first MX5 and have joined the forum to find out more about them and potentially find one to buy.

Looking for a UK model(because of insurance) MK1, any engine size, edition or year. Preferably in good nick, doesn't have to be a minter but would like it to have some MOT. Also anywhere in Scotland, willing to travel to find the perfect one.

Cheers.

I have found no case when checking insurance sites where a grey import is dearer to insure.

Have you checked this and found the same car more expensive to insure if it is a grey import or are you reapeating second hand advice.

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for your reply.

I think its because I'm a bit younger and this will be my first insurance for myself. With the benefit of direct line named driver discount I can get a good quote for a uk model. When I spoke to them over the phone they said they couldn't insure me on an import until I'm 25. While this may not be the case with other insurers a quote from them is almost double the price for the year.

Hi Thommo and welcome to the forum and club, hope you get your car soon as if this weather keeps up we will have the roofs down quite a bit.
Welcome to the Tayside area.Lots of bargains around just now but with this sunshine prices will creep up soon ! just watch out that you do not buy a money waster as repairs to the dreaded tin worm is not cheap.

cheers :D :D

Hello, how old are you?
Imports can be cheaper to insure on classic policy.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Trying my best to be patient and wait till i find the best one within my budget. Going to look at another today hopefully and see where I go from there.

In terms of the import insurance I'm 21, and having tried a few classic insurers they won't give me a quote either. :(
