Recommended Kirkcaldy Body shop

Postby Dave Langlands » Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:50 pm

As the rust was spreading on my 2002 Mk2.5 MX5 and winter was getting closer, I decided to try and find a reputable body repair garage. I had been ripped off the previous year and wanted to make sure I got one with a good reputation this time around. A friend of mine recommended Scott Gibson, Body shop and Accident repair specialist. His garage is at Unit 12 Smeaton Ind Estate, Kirkcaldy Fife. When I first met Scott I explained to him that I intended to keep the car for a long time and wanted the job done properly. I wanted him to cut out any rust, or grind the panels back to good metal then paint and rustproof all the areas. Scott started by taking off the front wings, front and back bumpers, my boot lid and the doors. He took back all the paint to the metal on the rusty areas and cut out any areas that needed replacing. He undercoated and wax oiled inside my sills and inside of all my wings. Took the doors off and fixed all the dings from shopping trolleys and suchlike. He also gave the inside of my doors a good rust proofing. All the panels, sills, doors and boot lid were painted and lacquered except for the bonnet as it was in good condition. The workmanship, paint match and finish is first class. His after sales service is also first class. After I got the car back my boot lid was sticking slightly. I just phoned him and he fixed that in two minutes when I went back a few days after picking the car up. He had estimated the job would take a week. The amount of work needed took two weeks but he did explain that he could not be accurate until the car was stripped and he found out what was needed. That did not bother me as my priority was to get the job done right. I don’t think he could have done a better job even if he was working on his own car. He takes real pride in his workmanship and it shows. Now your probably thinking top workmanship costs top dollar. Well no, all I am going to say is that he charged me well on the right side of £1000 and charged below his original estimate. You can strike your own deal with him but he is very reasonable and I was well pleased with the price considering all the work he put in. He will even take pictures of the work throughout the process if you want. Being that good means he is pretty busy though so you may have to book your car in two weeks in advance. His phone number is 01592 205685.I am not affiliated to this business in any way, I am just extremely pleased with his workmanship and just want to recommend him.
Cheers, Dave

I would love to put some pictures up but I have been unable to give it a good wash or polish for a few weeks because of the weather. If the weather allows I'll put some on the forum for you. By the way, if anyone is thinking of getting some body work done and you are looking around Dunfermline area, if you PM me I can tell you one to avoid. I’m not sure if I can put stuff like that on the forum.
Cheers, Dave.

Hi folks,

I can't recommend this workshop highly enough! Scott Gibson did a complete strip, restore and repaint on my 2002 Mk2.5 late last summer. It looks absolutely fantastic - better than factory finish in fact.

I haven't a clue how you upload photographs on here but I could probably manage to e-mail some as an attachment. If anyone wants to see his workmanship first hand, please feel free to have a look at what he did on mine - it's kept in Prestonpans. I just hope we get some decent weather soon as I'm looking forward to getting it out on the road again!

Andy.
