I've got a spare front one too which I'll stick in my toolbox (with bolts).

Alex IF you spin just make sure you stop with the back end facing the track

So is the consensus that front and rear tow hooks are a must? I don't have either! Any links to where I can buy them?

I just want to clarify - are the standard front and rear tie down loops passable or must I fit an aftermarket toe loop?

i think the tie down hoops should suffice. the cars on the hot hatch days dont have to be fitted with anything other than the standard towing eyes.

I was in touch with Knockhill again today about the Tow Hooks ruling; I explained the scenario relating to our cars and asked for a definitive answer, which is exactly the same as last year.
Knockhill are aware that we all have Rear Hooks fitted and will allow cars on track without the front Tie Down Hooks fitted, as long as we all understand that in the event of a spin it could take longer to clear the track thus eating into our track time, this will be emphasised by track staff at the track briefing on the night, the same way it will be pointed out that anyone spinning off more than a reasonable amount, will be asked to return to the pits for the remainder of the allocated time.

I said I would be in your face again about this next bit so here I go again…I must stress that this is not a race meeting, it is a Track Night to allow members and invited non members the chance to drive and see how their cars handle on a race track environment and as such safety is of paramount importance.
I would also ask members not to publish or speak of lap times on our web site, apart from the obvious effect this may have on others reading them, it could also put the Track Day Insurance some people have in jeopardy, as it clearly states timed events are not permitted. In this age of the great big world wide web we never know who is watching us.
Thank you for reading this, I know and trust you will help make this another safe, friendly and enjoyable Central Scotland Track Night.

I will aim to fit a front tow hook anyway to minimise any delay in the unplanned event of a spin. Perhaps Richard can sort me out with one?

How busy is the 'traffic' on the track? As a first-timer I wouldn't want to be getting too close to other cars where possible!

I don't plan to take out track insurance myself - does this affect other premiums that are taken out? I imagine track day insurance might work in the reverse of 'third party insurance' so only covers the drivers car?

Helmets - are these available to rent at the track and at what cost? I'll need a big one for my big heed! But if I were to supply my own, what standard would it have to meet?

Helmets were a fiver or so I think. I've got a large head myself and they fit me OK.

If you plan on buying your own, remember there's no point in buying a cheap one, it's the only thing between the top of your head and the tarmac :-)

If you look at the photos from last year, then you can see that the track isn't too busy, the numbers are judged about right I think.

Track day insurance only covers your own car I think, bear in mind that there are pretty enormous excesses on most of them, which made it relatively uneconomical for me to take it out. Some insurers offer trackday cover as part of your policy AON, for example.
